It all comes down to opinion in the end, but fact remains most people would say the 360 library is better than the PS3's.

Agreed. I assumed the OP was asking "why do most people think the 360 library is better than the PS3 library?". But apparently that wasn't really what was being asked. It seems to have been "please show me conclusive proof that the 360 library is better than the PS3 library, or I'm not going to believe it's true."

The obvious answer is what you stated: the perception is there because of majority opinion, but some people seem to dislike that answer.

Also some people dislike the fact that it is opinion that the 360 library is better than the PS3.  It's not so much whether it's better or not, but it's how as the OP asked which is the topic.  And that boils down to what kind of games that you want.

Also, I'm am RPG fan, but enough of the franchises on the 360 do not interest me such as ToV and Star Ocean, tried the franchises and didn't catch on to me. You also have exclusive offerings from Altus, but those games are too risky to spend my hard earned cash on when I know I have better choices out there. And most multi-platform RPG's that are on the PS3 are better such as Enchanted Arms, Oblivion, and Eternal Sonata with FFXIII Versus being an exclusive as examples.

...

Good post until you said the comment in bold.

PS3 Advantages:

1. 6-week detail-rendering-distance advantage over the 360 until the 1.2 patch came out for 360

2. Bundled Knights of the Nine ($10 price advantage).

360 Advantages:

1. Much more downloadable content such as Frostcrag Spire, Fighter's Stronghold, Mehrune's Razor, etc., etc.  I believe there are a total of 9 DLC options on the 360 that are not on the PS3

2. 2-disc Collector's edition with significant background book, coin of the realm, and map

Both versions render at the same resolution, have similar load times, and have the same detail-rendering-distance characteristics.  I don't know why people keep claiming the PS3 version is better.  Other than the $10 price advantage due to the bundled KOTN, the 360 version is arguably better with all the extra DLC and collector's edition available.

OMG! This is all just opinion!

Some of you need to get over this metacritic crap. Metacritic is just data about individual opinions. And if you want to use metacritic, you can spin it any way you want to fit YOUR OPINION. If you want the PS3 to look better show the percentages, if you want the 360 to look better show the totals from launch.

Like some people have tried to state, this is just opinions.

Vanilla ice cream is the favorite flavor of ice cream in the USA.  This is demonstrated by the relative sales levels of ice cream flavors.  Personally, I prefer mint chocolate chip.  Do I get upset that most people seem to prefer vanilla?  Heck no.  Then again, I don't really care if I run with the herd or not.  I buy what I like.

The 360 has been out longer than the PS3, so of course it's going to have a larger library of games.  That means there's more to choose from in a lot of genre's.  Does that mean someone should prefer the 360's library over the PS3's?  No... as you say, it depends on what you like.  It's just that there are *likely* to be more people who prefer the 360's library because it had a head start and is much larger than the PS3's.  The PS2 had a much larger, and arguably better library compared to the Xbox, but that didn't man that Xbox owners had to choose the PS2 over the Xbox.  It just meant that trying to argue that the Xbox's library was better would get one laughed out of most video-gaming circles unless they were comprised primarily of Halo fans.

I've seen both versions side by side and found that the PS3 version has better textures, draw distance, and load times.  Yes, the patch improved the 360 version, but the PS3 was still better.  That's something I know I CANNOT get that with the 360 version while DLC such as Mehrune's Razor was included with the Knights of the Nine included with the PS3 version.  I'm more than happy logging over 265 hours in the game.  This whole thread is about opinion so I'll just leave it a that.

Never argued that point because it's logical for some because the quantity of games on a console can be a factor, but it's still an opinion why one would think a console would "have a bettter libary" than another.

The games I want to play are on the 360, for me the 360 library is better.

The notion that old games are to be dismissed is complete bull, in fact the reduced price point often makes them an even better deal than when they were released since you get the same experience for less. Only recently I picked up Rainbow Six Vegas from the bargain bin, and while it is not perfect I am thoroughly enjoying it. Imagine $30 for such gems as Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War, or eventually even Fable 2.

The 360 has been around longer, they're going to have a bigger and better library. There's nothing bad about that.... It will even out in a year or 2

@ Jordhan

I'm with you bro as I agree with all of your posts here. Even though it's all opinion I really like the 360 library, but the PS3s -IMO- is superior and that's all I have to say about that.

Very amusing.  Two people are having a debate about something comprised primarily of opinion, and you tell the one person, "who cares", implying that it's silly to argue about it, then tell the person who's opinion you agree with, "I'm with you bro."

So which is it?  Is it pointless to debate the subject, or are you taking sides?  Can't do both, bro.

According to Bethesda, the two render EXACTLY the same after the patch.  I can't account for your personal observation as I don't know what your environment was (TV makes/models, video cables used, etc.), but I will take the software publisher's word on this one.  Perhaps you should tell people that you believe the PS3 rendering was better based on your own experimentation, instead of stating that the PS3 version was simply better than the 360 version.  Otherwise, you're propagating the same sort of "opinion" of superiority that bothers you when applied to the 360/PS3 libraries.

Don't get me wrong... I agree with much of what you say in your posts, and they tend to be well reasoned and well stated (well, in my opinion, anyway ), but I guess it bothers me to hear someone state "the PS3 version of Oblivion is better than the 360 version", just as it bothers you to hear people say the 360 library is "better".
