Nintendo DSi vs. PSP-3000 vs. iPod Touch, v1.0

Note: Relative sizes approximate

Now that we have some concrete details about the Nintendo DSi -- which bears more than a few similarities between its multimedia competitors -- let's size it up against the PSP-3000 and Apple's "gaming handheld" the iPhone/iPod Touch. Remember this is based on tech specifications and not on games library. We'll keep updating as we get more news from Nintendo about its just-announced portable.

Pics are nice but where are the spec updates?

All i know is

DS
- Get a Camera

PSP
- Gets a Mic

EDIT: Seems my post was delayed. Commented before the specs post.

The pics and that tiny spec sheet don't really put into perspective all the upgrades that have come via firmware updates to the PSP.

DSi pwns all. I dont think the psp can keep up which is ironic because it has most of the DSi features already. Surprising move by Ninty but it was a good one I'll be getting one.

PSP looks the same, DS had major changes.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)

Brings it right into line with the iTouch/IPhone IMO. Its the potential "DS app store" + DS channels that is the real advancement. Camera is nice as well - especially if they launch some form of "friends list" and video conferencing software.

PSP isn't too far either - but while its missing a touch screen, IMO its not in the same league.

Really surprised by the change in battery life - I think there is some "hidden" secret to the DSi we don't know about yet. The larger screen wouldn't dent the battery THAT much (I'd rather have the old screen & more battery!) - its something else - like WiFi always being active, or some new chip/CPU in it.

The last thing they really need in the DSi is the ability to "toggle" between an application and the OS - so you can pause a game, jump to the OS, check your email/change music, then jump back into the game.

Wonder if they have added a 2nd CPU for the purpose of running the OS/camera (unlikely) - might explain the change in battery if they have.

I would drool all over this. Why stop there? Allows 1 session to be paused and run the other. Something like a save state. That way, you can swap between 2 games and not worry about interruption. (No, I don't want to get 2 DSes to do that, lol)

The battery life going down is full of failure.

:S

Hmm the DSi looks interesting but im not going to get one just yet since it loses the ability to play GBA games (from what i have heard) and reduced battery life.

I do find it interesting though as Nintendo appears to be positioning the DSi as their new handheld, its full of new features and games that will only only work on it (DSiWare) -- its almost really quite interesting, and i wonder how SONY and others will react.
