Forums - Nintendo - Wii storage solution confirmed?...

Nintendo has been doing this for years at hotels, the Wii (and in the past GC & N64) just accesses a server in the hotel that houses all of the games. It is not on each Wii, but at a central location.

With the GC & N64 you never even saw the console, just wired controllers. You used the remote on the TV to select games, picked what you wanted from a menu, and then could use the controllers to play. You used the remote to leave the game as well.

I bet the hotels will have the Wii controlled hard wired as well or a lot of Wiimotes/Nunchucks will walk right out the door.

It defintely will not be the same storage solution they use for consumers, these will be bestseller full games, probably Wii Sports, Mario Kart, Brawl, Wii Play, Mario Party 8, Big Brain Academy, Wario Ware Smooth Moves, etc. There is a possibility Ninty might provide access to a few third party pick up and play titles, like Boom Blox, Rayman, Carrnival Games, Lego Star Wars, or Game Party.

It will be pick up and play titles, and will introduce more people to the Wii, as well as sell software to people who already have a Wii. And Mariott can charge a premium for the rooms with Wii access.

At least you get unlimited gaming, with the past versions of this you had to pay an hourly rate to play, and it was very expensive.

BAM! There it is!

Wii Code 3456 7941 4060 2924
COD MW Reflex 541192229709
Around the Network

I actually stayed at a Westin resort that had a Wii station like this around a month ago. The main selling point was of course Wii Fit (which was advertised everywhere), but it had many other games as well. Ironically enough, there was only one Wii station in the whole resort, but my brother and I got to try it out (30 minute sessions) and have some fun on the ol' balance board.

noooooo storage soloution will most likely be 2moz

^^^ I want one!

Edit: It still begs the question though.... if Nintendo and its partners can invest a ton of money to develop what is basically a huge HDD built around the Wii's architecture to play its games, why can't they simply...

A: Develop a custom USB flash drive or HDD for the Wii or...

B: Creat a firmware update that allows the Wii to read software directly off of SD cards?

I have a whopping total of 5 VC/WiiWare games and 3 downloadable channels on my Wii and I have roughly 41 blocks of memory left... that's pathetic! I really am starting to wonder if Nintendo is purposely holding out on us for whatever reason, because there's really no excuse for the Wii's storage issues.

I think is EXTREMELY unlikely that Nintendo releases a storage solution before developing a way to slow piracy.

Well, looks like someone's been proven wrong after today's announcements... and it wasn't me!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
