I got the nights pad and yeah its great. I wish sega used that pad for the dreamcast instead...

I agree with him exactly "I hate that ****ing controller"

Dualshock is very clunky, terrible shoulder buttons, terrible D pad, and horrid analog placement. Of course that's my opinion.

I think all the pads should go with Nintendo's analog stick format, with an octagonal shape rather than a perfect circle, it helps a lot if you want to go perfectly straight sideways back etc, easier to navigate.

you do realise that controller preference is opinion, right? while you think the ps controller is horrible, i think it's the best controller ever made. i think the gamecube controller is horrid, but other people think it's the best too. what i'm basically trying to say is that you can't call the design 'lazy', just because it doesn't suit your needs properly. it's a design, which many people like, that's why sony decided to keep it the way it is.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I disagree with your "its prefference" statement. While you are correct that everyones prefferences are different, that speaks nothing of the general quality of a product.  Someone may preffer mac and cheese to a gourmet steak dinner...the steak dinner is still a better meal.

In any case, it is widely known that the dualshock controller is trying to be the jack of all trades and works fine for that but as soon as you get in to a perticular type of game where precise and accurate controllers are needed (FPS games, 2D fighters, SHMUPS...etc) the controller is not good at all.

So you are the self-appointed authority that passes judgement on what is the 'mac' and what is the 'gourmet steak' of dinners? Thanks but no thanks. it also does not help that your posts are consistently anti-sony.

One fact: The gourmet steak is a better meal then the mac, because more people like it, hence the higher demand and the higher price. Is there a similar situation with the PS controllers? Have droves of people hated it, thus forcing Sony to change the design? I guess there are a lot of people like me who are just fine with the PS controller.

In trying to prove a point you are only expressing your personal preference, which, by the way, is fine.

Read up on a few more posts in this topic...then post agian if you'd like cause this doesn't make much sense. I am not passing judgement on which controller is better... but many people who actually know what they are doing (including capcom and IGN) have stated ps2/3 controller dpads are not good.

It may do the job for you and be your favourite controller...but like I said, no one will play a fighting tournament match with a ps2 pad. Its like trying to run with your shoes tied.

Just check out the thread after the opening comment and be thankful that these boards aren't like that.

For the record i never liked the Playstation controllers that much, specifically the analogue sticks, but my best mate thinks they are the best thing ever.

The truth is like a slap in the face... having your anolog sticks in a 5th gen possition when it's the 7th generation of consoles shows how retarded the DS3 controller is.

edit:  Good thing there are mods for that stuff. http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/ps3-hacked-to-accept-xbox-360-controller/

That sounds very strange to me.

The symmetrical placement of sticks for gaming date back far further. Just remember SmashTV in the arcades where the sticks were placed symmetrically. Also with the Amiga port people would place the two arcade sticks symmetrically. IMO that feels the most natural and comfortable.

With regard to the thumb position, my opinion as a physical therapist who worked a lot with ergo therapists. The PS3 sticks are placed in a position where the maximum range of motions of the thumb is possible, this means for instance if you had an accident you are most likely to still perform the needed range of motion of the thumb. The 360's asymmetric placement is IMO not a good one if using both thumbs simultaneously, the PS3's stick placement is far more natural and neutral, placed in the MLPP position (which is of course normally the same for left and right thumb).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Maybe for you, but for the length of my thumbs, the Ps3 sticks are too close together to use comfortably without my thumbs coliding in the middle on daul-stick games.

This inhibits the ability of my thumb to use both sticks full range at the same time, unless I play with the tip of my thumb, which is harder on the Ps3 controller because of the non-indented sticks.

Because the 360s sticks are in different positions, my thumbs don't touch when I look left and strafe right.

I don't think this would be a problem if the controller was really small like it was designed for a ten year old.

your thumbs collide?

How big are your hands?

I'm 6'3" and this has never happened to me through all DualShock/Sixaxis generations, so I'm just asking.

Do you perhaps hold the controller differently than I do I wonder?
