Forums - Sony - Bleszinski: I hate the dualshock, I love the Blue-Ray

I can't say that I blame the guy. I didn't like the PS1 controller. The Dualshock has been essentially unchanged for a decade. The analogs are still in the wrong place and d-pad is still shoddy. They could at least make an effort to improve the controller.

The left analog should be in a primary not secondary location. Most games use analog input as the first option now but the Dualshock continues to treat the digital pad as the primary input. Its ironic when you consider that Sony has had a pretty anti-2D stance in the the PS1's introduction.

I've played fighting games for 15 years now...been in a few local Street Fighter 3 tournaments as well. The dualshock dpad is generally a laughing stock in those circles...as much as the 360 dpad is. Except no one claims the 360 dpad is amazing...but every sony owner loves their dualshock dpad for some reason.

Many big Sony fans owe their first console gaming experience to Sony and that's probably a large portion of it.  They love the DS because really it's the only controller they've ever gotten to know.

This could be true. sony has had 3 generations of customers using the exact same pad.

Ill re-state my argument here...

Sony ps1/2/3 controllers are great controllers that can be used to play many types of games well and they do have a functioning Dpad. However there have been controllers in the past that have had a better designed Dpad including SNES, Genesis, Saturn...

No one should have a problem with that.

Meh, I don't like the shape of the controller.

The BuShA owns all!

the d-pad is digital. dpad could mean directional or digital, because they are both

people with tiny hands will probably prefer the PS3 controller, people with normal or oversized hands will prefer the 360 controller.

On the other hand, I'm sure cliffy b likes blu-ray because of the space he's got and not the format itself. As a developer, it's their duty to put time in compressing stuffs to fit in a DVD, and blu-ray offers tons of space so they can get lazy and get away with some compression, of course, they'll have to deal with mandatory install, but anyway...

D-Pad on Dualshock 3 Pwns. Esp in Tekken. Disoltude and Dark Requiem i'd hate to hear your Complaints about 360 D-Pad

The PS3 controller feels great on my hands (I don't have big hands) and I love the D-Pad actually, it is my favorite controller for most genres. After it I love the Wiimote/nunchuk combo for several genres as well

360 pad is worse...but thats like saying the clap is better STD then herpes.

I like the DS3, it's quite nice, but I wouldn't drop $94 (which is asking price in AU) for it.

Six-Axis on the other hand, is a pile of junk. Build quality is shotty, as a person who's owned all types of official playstation controllers (including the original PS1 analogue-less controller) I have never broken a controller. For any console in fact. But for some reason, on both my Six-Axis controllers the left analogue stick has gone to hell (makes clicking noises when I move it) and the L2 and R2 buttons are all sponge like (they don't spring back quickly when pressed).

But my complaint with both DS3 and 6-axis is the shaving of the bottom of the controller to add triggers means I need tiny hands to hold the thing AND the placement of the analogue and D-PAD, after the ingenuity of the gamecube and 360 controllers, I found it so hard and wrong to go back to the PS controller.

D-Pad on the PS Controllers rock though, they're my favourite of all time.

I have complained about the 360 D-Pad several times before. The 360 D-Pad sucks. Thankfully I know that when the 720 comes out MS will actually design a new controller instead trotting out the same tired barely passable design. Choosing between the 360 D-Pad and the Dual Shock D-Pad is like choosing between a kick in the nuts and a punch in the gut. If I had to choose I'd pick the punch in the gut but I'd rather experience neither. BTW Joysticks pawn D-Pads for fighting games. The closest D-Pad to a joystick was the aforementioned Saturn D-Pad.
