Animal Crossing on the Gamecube (A new IP outside of Japan) managed just short of 4 million.... and in Japan it was the 2nd best selling GC game just short of 1 million (1 in 4 GC owners)
Perhaps it won't get the huge sales of the DS version, which will likely exceed 10 million this Christmas, but I am pretty sure it will far exceed the GC version.

I think the Wii is an entirely different deomgraphic, but really that guess is based on Galaxy selling 7 million and my assumption that AC will sell far less than that. I'd say 5 maybe, I doubt 6, but again, just a guess. I haven't really researched the subject, and again I could be underestimating that game, and LBP.

With the success of the wii and the DS version of animal crossing it could easily sell very well. It should handily outsell LBP. LBP is an unkown and if it does see huge sales I think it would see it over a long period of time as word of mouth spreads. Animal crossing is already very well known so it has that going for it.

However, when your exclusives that look to be making the most money are 1st/2nd party games, sales don't matter because you're going to keep making them anyway.

The PS3 is in a great position because its hardware is relatively equal to another console that historically sells a lot more software, so it'll always catch those ports. It's like the Wii/PS2 relationship.

As the userbase for the PS3 grows, tentpole titles will eventually creep their way on the list. I can see XIII, and Gran Turismo both making that list.

Well ok...But I'd say Wii is selling to a very similar set of people as the DS (Wii is kind of a mix of GC, PS2 and DS in terms of fanbase)... and AC:WW has been enormous on the little handheld. There is the argument that the game favours portability over playing at home, which may mean it falls short of AC:WW sales, but I can guarantee you it will pass 6 million eventually.

^Yes, 24 of them (at least, as some missing Europe data may push the odd game up)

but remember time is a factor in gaining million sellers, PSP has been out 2 years longer han PS3.

1.Why the hell wouldn't people include Wii play? It's not packaged with Wii hardware in any territory! I think it's just fanboy cherrypicking. It's a game. Pure and simple. I know people love to hate it so maybe that's the reason. I actually think it's a good game obviously are ignorant to its depth.


2. Animal crossing will be huge! Coming out in the holidays, i think it will see eventual numbers of 7-8m with a huge opening.

So look at 360 and Wii's numbers. They crush PS3's numbers and one year one let them catch up. I bet you.

Hell who wants to make a bet that if PS3 doesn't catch up to 360's number as of now a year later I will be permabanned if they don't u will.

My personal opinion is that LBP will open to above average sales, and have above average legs for a HD game, but I don't think it'll have the legs of a Nintendo game. Japan will be key, if the game takes off over there, it'll have a chance, but  I wouldn't bet any money on that happening. Userbase plays a key role in sales, and you need a significant userbase and strong legs or a vast lump sum at the start to make the top 10 exclusives list. It could skirt 9 or 10 though, who knows.

 I don't think people realize that they're asking LBP to quickly blow by MGS4 when they say that it will outsell Gears 2.

While I can see with your last 2 paragraphs you don't think LBP has a chance.... I shall respond to the first 2 paragraphs.

Do you remember the semi-famous, 12,000+ votes long running poll about best selling game in 2008? (the one that resulted in the position of poll administrator being made because it wasn't updated in months)
Yeah the eventual game with the most votes was Metal Gear Solid 4.... the only one of the list that didn't have a chance in hell. Mario Kart was stone dead last, and yet looks like it might become the best seller (if Wii Fit doesn't have the supply)

So yes fandom and hope is certainly misleading a lot of people votes here too... the most sensible voters will be voting for Wii Music, Animal Crossing and Gears 2.... all of which should at the minimum pass 6 million. Fable 2 won't get near 6 million, Resistance 2 might get near it, but I doubt it will pass it. LBP is an unknown, I'd give a minimum of 2 million, but it could pass 6 million handily too.

 

That poll was crazy. Some people thought MGS4 would sell 10M lifetime. I don't understand why people are going with their heart instead of their head. I voted for GTAIV even though I hate the franchise.

I think Gears 2 will win this holiday season. It's a huge title for 360 owners. I think that Animal Crossing and Wii Music have a chance to outsell it at some point but not in this holiday season.
