i hope not

Looks like last years season all over again. The PS3 may outsell the 360 by a few thousand units WW or vice versa. Either way Sony can't be happy with that.
I still think the PS3 will get a price drop in October, so no, I don't think it will happen. I also think LBP will be heavily advertised and receive GOTY. This on top of the PS3 being sold along with HDTV purchases as a blu-ray/ media center.
The PS3 will get advertise by many stores just for being a blu-ray player. So being the Blu-ray player on top of being the "LBP console" will give them lots to bargain with when it comes to the mainstream consumer. Also, Iron Man and Dark Knight will be the best sellers on Blu-ray thus far IMO, so we will have to see.
I still think the PS3 will outsell the 360 by a minimum of 1,000,000 WW this Christmas.

All numbers on all Three consoles in the USA fell last week NOT just 360, Japan like and are now buying the 360 175w Falcons, Europe/others in 2 days of price cut(Cuts 18th Sept chart goes to 20th Sept) 360 now only 7,000 behind expect it to surpass PS3 there next week, sales of the 360 in the UK this week have been incredible. |
Yeah, but only one console had a price drop recently.
Definitely won't come true, I'm afraid. We're already seeing the boost created by the 360 price-cuts in every region falling back to what they were this summer. In the upcoming months, PS3 sales are going to decisively annihilate 360 sales for all of October due to the fact that the only system selling exclusive that the 360 has ALL MONTH is Fable II in NA/EU/AU. Compared to PS3 which will be releasing NBA 09: The Show in NA, SOCOM: Confrontation in NA/EU/JP/AU, Eternal Sonata in NA, BioShock in NA/EU, LittleBigPlanet in NA/EU/JP/AU, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift in NA and PlayStation Home, Sony is all but guaranteed to dominate 360 all month.
After getting decisively beaten in October, 360 certainly won't manage to overtake PS3 sales until at least the week of the release of Gears of War 2 in NA/EU/AU, but even that is uncertain with the North American releases of Resistance 2, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm and the 160GB Uncharted bundle hitting earlier the same week.
The next week though looks to be the first clear victory for the 360 for the rest of this year as it sees the release of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts in NA/EU in combination with first week sales of Gears 2. Comparitively, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift in Austrailia and Way of the Samurai 3 as well as Resistance 2 in Japan don't stand much of a chance.
The third week of November sees another likely victory for 360 mostly thanks to The Last Remnant in NA/JP of which the JP sales will make all the difference. In addition, Left 4 Dead is also being released this week in NA/AU and likely EU. This week, PS3 is getting Resistance 2 in EU and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift in JP.
The final week of November really doesn't make a difference due to no releases that will make a notable shift one way or the other. It should also be said that MotorStorm: Pacific Rift in EU as well as Valkyria Chronicles in NA and Europe don't have set release dates in November so which week they do hit could have a significant effect on how the PS3 does that week.
December sales will likely be entirely dependent on the two systems respective selling points this holiday season (360: Low price, PS3: Blu-ray) due to the lack of virtually any significant exclusive release announced for either console. If we look at last year as an example, PS3 marginally outsold 360 in both November and December despite the 360 having an inarguably better lineup of games and being $120 dollars cheaper due to the rush for blu-ray even though it was still in a bitter battle for supremacy with HD-DVD. This year, with Blu-ray established as the only HD format, I see the PS3 once again beating the 360 despite being significantly more expensive.
"You shall witness the true power of this fully operational 360 battle station" in the Holiday months. The price cut was not aimed for a quick increase then level out. It was to ensure that enough people were aware and informed of the new current low prices, online dashboard, Live arcade games, and November-December titles leading into the Holiday season.
The November-December numbers will show the true effect of the price cut. Not the initial 2 weeks (which helped)......you shall all see come January 2009!!

I think you overestimate LBP.
How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...
