Like it or not, people are buying software for the Wii. Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Music, etc. are software. The Wii sells because of its games.

Name software that either doesn't have "Wii" or staple Nintendo franchises in it. It can't be the staple first party titles that are making it sell, because otherwise the GCN and the N64 would have sold trememndously (I don't think that the GCN couldn't get to 30 Million because of Super Mario Sunshine, and that all of a sudden Mario Galaxy turned things around). And the whole "Wii (insert game name here)" focus that Nintendo is going after is what's making all the hardcore Ninty fans get pissed.

 

Perhaps you didn't see the stats from nintendo and NPD that showed 3rd party software on the wii outsold TOTAL software on 360 and PS3.  That's just 3rd party software.  That was from last year so we have yet to see it from this year but after the holiday season i think we'll see the same thing again. 

I'm sick of the wii doesn't sell software argument or 3rd parties don't sell.  It's been proven wrong over and over.  You might have a case in Japan, but there certainly isn't a lot of big names released yet from 3rd parties for wii in Japan and the japanese console market is getting pretty small.

 

You mean the likes of Cooking Mama, Carnival Games, and Mario and Sonic, which are all multimillion sellers? You think THOSE are the reasons why the Wii is selling? (Laughs).

I think you jumped the gun, and dismissed my original argument. The Wii will win this gen NOT by having the BEST library. Sure, Mario and Sonic sold like 5+ Million.....that doesn't mean it still wasn't rated 67 aggregate on Metacritic

Yeah nobody argued that the Wii doesn't sell third-party software. but it is easy to argue that the Wii doesn't sell GOOD third-party software.

The sales success of gaming pearls like carnival games, game party, lawn games etc. is hard to deny.

I'm not a blind Wii hater. I just know that the only defense Wii owners have for "It sells software well" are also the same shovelware crap that 3rd parties toss on there. Ubisoft has done nothing, other than Red Steel, but put junk on there, but it still sells.

Let's take a rundown of the Wii's highest software sales. Now, moan all you want about me not counting typical 1st party games....but like I said before, if Mario and Zelda and Metroid, etc. were the reason the Wii is selling, then why didn't the GCN and N64 trounce the competition?

Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Mario and Sonic, Mario Party, GH3, Big Brain Academy, Super Paper Mario, Wario Ware, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Mario Strikers, Resident Evil: Wii, Lego Star Wars, Rayman Raving Rabbits, Game Party (seriously....wtf?), MySims, RE: UC, Red Steel, High School Musial, Smarty Pants.

Now what's the average score of those games? Like 60 something. Sure, the Wii "sells" software......that doesn't make it all "good" software. So to reiterate my argument, EVEN INCLUDING YOURS OF THE WII SELLING GAMES (which I never said didn't happened, actually), THE WII WILL WIN THIS GEN NOT BY HAVING THE BEST GAMES!

Now, back on topic.

Yes, the Wii version will outsell the PS3 version, because A. It has over double the install base and B. The allure of motion controls

Being off topic- If there were more "good" third party games on the Wii, I think they would sell Tremendously well; since crap third party games sell over what they are expected to sell on Wii, why wouldn't better Software sell on it?

You are so true, it's not random we see Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii in the top 10 for about 6 months, also SSBB is on the top 20 or so for a long time, even higher than GTA IV!! and is mostly a hard core game than casual!!

about 3rd parties, if the game is good, it sells!!
Zack and Wiki is almost to gold, same with Boom Blox, Lego Star Wars and Sonic sold really well, Tales of Symphonia is selling good as well, DragonBall Budokai tenkaichi 3 is at about 0.70 and also Dragon Quest for Wii is somehow close to 1 million!!

games sell if they are good, but 3rd parties develop games for Wii in order to sell without effort, which results in having something like 4-5 NIntendo games that are 7 million sellers!!

 

Force unleashed will do the best on Wii and by Christmas it may even beat Xbox360 cause it's a great game and will have long legs, unlike Xbox360 games that sell only the 1st 2-3 weeks!

"Best" or "Good" games are hard to define universally. Maybe core gamers have an idea of what it is, but the Wii opened the game market to new audiences, which have a different idea of what a "good" game is.

For example, on a purely technical standpoint, Wii Sports is bad. The graphics are terrible, the sound minimal, the controls are imprecise (give me a motion plus golf game NOW!!!).

But to my mom it's the best game out there. She always asks me to bring the Wii along during weekends. She always beats me in tennis and bowling. She now quotes mainstream news articles about the Wii (gasp!). She really, really loves it.


Anyway, on topic. If TFU sold better on Wii than the PS3, so what? PS3 owners can always say it's because of the installed userbase (which, IMO, is a valid reason). So is it really a problem?

It's just "game x sold more on my machine" syndrome. Let's move on.

Aww don't fight about wii's third party sales. It is good for us all. Shovelware sells on wii -> money to develop good games on ps360. Majority of wii owners are happy with their game party/carnival games/mario&sonic and so on. Everyone is happy. :)
