Forums - Sales - Why do you care so much about console sales?

Because if the console you own does not sell well it means you could have less third party game support, IE you get less games on your system.

That golden rule does not always apply. GTA IV, FF XIII, etc are only on PS3 and X360. The Wii should have those games too if that was the case as well as a version of every popular game series because the Wii has sold double the amount of PS3 and X360 combined.

That is true but the WII is unique on so many levels., the issue with the WII is its image.  First I am not saying this is true but people I talk to think the fowlloing

1) 3rd party dosent sell on the WII

2) The WII is for kids hence the games above are considered more adult games

3) The WII is for causal gamers

4) The WII is last generation not next no HD

Are these true most are not but that is what the developers seem to be under the last one is a semi valid point.  When making a game for the 360 or PS3 they have similiar horse power so you can put a game on either one in order to put it on the WII you have to cut the graphics down signficantly which can affetc game play.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

I do not see you making money out of it unless you are ioi the owner of this site.

The only people who make money out of console sales are the corporations: Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony.

So people why do you care so much about console sales?

wow.  Where are we again?

He does make a point, the way some people respond on these boards you think they were the CEO of SONY, MS or Nintendo, of course we are on VG vhartz which is a Console gaming sight.  I decided to give him/her the benefit of the doubt

He might make a point....but I think he should direct the question to ioi himself.

None of us would be here in the first place if ioi hadn't felt so passionately about something that honestly doesn't affect us at all.  Some people like watching market trends, others like to see the storm before it hits their little hardcore gaming village.  Still others just come here for the communication and to watch fanboys go into epileptic fits every time the numbers get released.

LOL true I am the latter, this generation looks like all three will end up as winners

Because some people are insecure and need to feel as if they've backed the right horse. The rest of us just care about whether or not we're having fun gaming. I don't care if a system sells 100 units or 100,000,000 units as long as I'm having fun with it. I loved my Turbo Grafx, my Saturn, my Dreamcast, etc.

Keep this in mind when reading what I type...

I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

I know what the O.P. means.

Caring about sales is one thing, but talking about them like your life depends on it is another. I do agree that we are on a sales site, but some people take this shit too seriously.

Like if their console of choice is going down, they are gonna die.

You can't post in this thread with a straight face.

Last generation I didn't care--I was a bit upset that Nintendo didn't do well, but nothing major.

This gen, I'm overjoyed that Nintendo is winning because it signifies a change in our industry--I want more people to enjoy my hobby, and I want new ways to enjoy it myself. That's what they're doing.

At the same time, I'm glad Sony has been put in their place, because they (meaning their CEOs) were downright insulting to me as a consumer, saying I should 'want to work two jobs to buy one' and 'we could launch it with no games and sell five million consoles, because we're just that awesome.'

With regard to Microsoft, they're trying really hard and deserve the decent success they're having.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Because they have no jobs?

The numbers do have an effect on some of us, and some of our decisions. Not everyone here is a random gamer just interested in the numbers for fun. Its evident that a number of the folks on this site know more than they "should" about the industry to be just everyday gamers -- in particular, an awful lot of Microsoft info seems to leak out here.

I'm just sayin'. =)

I will need to adjust the OP thread. I know ioi makes money from the site from the sales of consoles and video games purchased from VGChartz directly and through the advertisements of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft products on this site. More traffic means more sales revenue from the site.

I wonder if there are anyone on here other than ioi, the site creator. who can claim they do make money from console sales and well they would care. But if not, i wonder why people care so much about the console sales. How does it affect your life?
