Forums - Sales - American HW is Up!

I think the 360 is doing a great job considering 1) it released a year before the competition 2) the bad publicity surrounding past counsel defects 3) Sony brand loyalty in Europe and 4) it's historical poor performance in Japan.

Microsoft is doing a good job turning the 360 around considering its series of unfortunate events.

I think some posters are ignoring a lot of different factors. Also consider, at this point, Microsoft's main goal is to compete with the PS3 which it already has a comfortable lead over. Granted the PS3 has been eating away at that lead recently, but the price cut will reverse that trend.

I cannot be 100% sure, but I feel comfortable stating that the 360 will make significant gains in the market over the remainder of the year.

I also think it's funny that some individuals are downplaying the current state of the economy. I can only attribute this to ignorance or lack of exposure to what's really going on with the economy. I am employed in the field of finance...scary and hard times are ahead.

I think anyone downplaying the state of economy is either too young to understand what's going on, or not from America. Wamu my bank just got bought by the FDIC to prevent it from going bankrupt. Wamu is..scratch that, was among the top ten biggest banks in America. It's one of the biggest banks to fail in history. If someone were to tell me a a couple months ago I should find a new bank because they'd go bankrupt I wouldn't believe them. I didn't even believe it when rumors said a week ago that Wamu might go bankrupt.

well wii is selling 30-50$ over retail while ps3 and 360 are selling under retail, that tells me it is still supply constrained at least to a certain extent.

I really wonder what happened to the ps3 lately, it's been on the decline for 5 weeks in a row. You gotta wonder if the 360 price drop had anything to do with it.

WaMu was purchased by JPMorgan Chase Bank, it didn't go under.

Still, the economy point is very valid.  There is colossal economic turmoil in the US right now, relative to the rest of the entire console gaming era, from before there even were video games.

what I would like to see is a breakdown of 360 sales per SKU.
I wonder if the $199 model outsold the more pricey (yet still price-cut) models?

Wow. Just kinda reaffirms that if Sony drops the price the 360 is completely f*cked. Octorber games+ price drop from Sony = 360 on its last leg.

the fact that 360 price drop only affected two weeks of sales reaffirms to you that if sony do the exact same thing microsoft just tried will be amazing in terms of sales to the degree that the 360 will be 'completely f*cked'?

how so.. i see it as a sign that price doesn't matter as much as most people here think it does.. perhaps it did initially, but nowadays it really isn't that big of a deal other than two short boosted weeks

what people are forgetting here is that 360 is way ahead of PS3 in LTD sales in America.. and even if the 360 is beaten on average by 20k (which is probably the maximum average we see over any given few weeks) every week for even 4 years.. it still won't outsell the 360.. so stop ignoring the fact that 360 has already sold to a big chunk of americans, and still selling 30k units this week MORE than ps3 was able to, when ps3 has sold less than half of what the 360 has sold LTD.. this bodes very bad.. very very bad.. for sony's hopes to capture the american market

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it would come up that potential PS3 buyers and a part of Wii ones too are waiting for a price cut in response to XB360 one: whatever its effect was, lesser or greater, denying it had any effect would be foolish. But as I wrote, we have to wait another two weeks at least to start seeing these effects WW on a less immediate term, only then we'll have a wider picture and Sony and Nintendo will be able to decide the measure of their reactions.
