360 price cut effect already waning in the states.....do MS have anything left to throw at the market to sustain a long term sales boost?

In the three weeks since the 360 price drop, it has outsold the PS3 in North America by 66% (week 1), 89% (week 2) and 63% (week 3). This doesn't look like a "waning" effect of the price drop; it looks like both 360 and PS3 sales are declining gradually, at about the same percentage rate.

wow nicee cherry picking. You fail to mention. 1st week = Japan + NA price cut 2nd week = Major game release. 3rd week = europe price drop.

Like I said last week 360 dropped again.... and we should all expect more drops next week. I say 5k in each region. So 10k Japan, 66k NA, and 60k Others. I got flamed last week for saying that the numbers weren't impressive. This week they are even worse....

Dude, the numbers for this week 360 in Japan would most likely have been over 20,000 if it wasnt sold out again in most shops acros Japan. (and yes there is proof over in the M$ forum with pics again showing sold out). Also even the wii thi week in america is low (resons already mentioned) so the 360 has done rather well. If america market was normal I would have said Wii 120,00, 360 85,000 and PS3 50,000 this week. So I think M$ should be very happy.

those NA numbers you pulled out of your ass.

Your right they were guesses. But use your head. It was a bad week for all 3. At a guess if wii did normal sales (120 ish) I would have guessed 360 would manage an extra 15,000 and PS3 about an extra 10,000. Just use your head, even Americas money problems are on the news in the UK.

Question: What do these 2 price cuts have to do with the 360 outselling the PS3 in North America?

I think the 360 is doing a great job considering 1) it released a year before the competition 2) the bad publicity surrounding past counsel defects 3) Sony brand loyalty in Europe and 4) it's historical poor performance in Japan.

Microsoft is doing a good job turning the 360 around considering its series of unfortunate events.

I think some posters are ignoring a lot of different factors. Also consider, at this point, Microsoft's main goal is to compete with the PS3 which it already has a comfortable lead over. Granted the PS3 has been eating away at that lead recently, but the price cut will reverse that trend.

I cannot be 100% sure, but I feel comfortable stating that the 360 will make significant gains in the market over the remainder of the year.

I also think it's funny that some individuals are downplaying the current state of the economy. I can only attribute this to ignorance or lack of exposure to what's really going on with the economy. I am employed in the field of finance...scary and hard times are ahead.

I'm not a fanboy, I just try to tip the balance in favor of logic and common sense.

Good job 360 =)

can u tell us if xbxo360 is sold out or not in Japan and NA ???

if it is not, then it is amazing to see, after a WW price drop,
the xbox360 only 25k beyond the PS3 ...

EDIT : considering the xbox360 sales, PS3 numbers are not so low ... indeed, they are even high !

I can say that the $199.99 version of the 360 is sold out in a lot of stores in the twin cities. So yeah, supply is definitely an issue for at least some major areas. I almost never see Wiis on the shelf (once in the last year).

Slow week....still good for nintendo.

Sony....gezzz ur freakin' falling down really HARD!!!! ps3 at the bottom.... ouch!!!

The PS2 had a good week it beat the PSP and PS3 it had 63,000 for last week in America

Total worldwide is 166,000, so it beat X360, PS3, and PSP worldwide this week!

I'm going to be honest- the 360 sold less than I expected. I thought it would get at least 100K.

360 - Alright
PS3 - Very low,

What ? No one noticed that for the first time in a while HD consoles combined > Wii? Pretty low numbers all around, but that'll change as we head into the holiday season.

Tha's only 'cause 360 is higher (much higher) than usual in Japan.
