But what about the experiments as an agenda or cooking? Also, does the iphone has a camera?

Second bolded:

Hmmm, thinking about it you're right, I don't see the DS Lite as Blue Ocean either, while I understand many people like the change it's difficult to see that change alone convinced people to buy the product. As far as I know the DS sales exploded when games like Nintendogs and Brain Training were put on the market.

The functions you describe can be done with anything that can display a text document. The DS is clearly using a blue ocean strategy, but the rumored redesign would not take it further down that path. It would take it down the exact path its competitors have tried.

But you will notice Malstrom is convinced it is part two of his three part blue ocean plan. He comes up with a theory, and then forces the evidence to fit it rather than gathering evidence and forcing the theory to fit it. When I start seeing more objective analysis from him I might take him seriously, but as of late he is just a cheerleader on the side blindly following Nintendos lead.

We'll have to wait and see, but maybe Nintendo could use those new elements into gaming, and succesfully convert new customers in new gamers. Anyway, thank you for taking your time to answer.

Um... if it has vide and MP3 then its definatly trying to squash the PSP. I disagree with Sean on that point.

If it relates into gaming then they are essentially creating a new system. Once you make a hardware revision that adds new game play options you force all your old customers to upgrade to get the full experience.

I was thinking in something like the GameBoy camera or a device that could be sold separately so any person could get it.

I guess it makes sense, but I don't know if I'd buy another DS.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

They are on phase 3 of blue ocean strategy.  They are trying to get distant cutomers that aren't interested in gaming to buy their product.  They are adding wireless connectivity so u know what good restaurants or other hotspots are near ur airport or subway.  They are also adding music playability & a camera.  This coupled by software such as cooking navi is geared to get non gamers (distant customers) to buy their product.

How is this not blue ocean strategy?

Wow, what an arrogant writing style. I didn´t know that this Maelstrom guy is so full of himself.

Because it is attempting to force a competitor out of the their space. This isn't going to appeal to entirely new audiences that never thought about buying a handheld gaming device before. All it is doing is taking features found in the PSP and iPhone and adding them to its own list.

The software has existd for the longest time. Electroplankton was the furthest thing you could get from a traditional game. I could list a dozen or more games that are like that and already released if you like, but where would that get us? The question on whether or not the DS started off using or continues to use the blue ocean strategy is not being conmtested by anyone here. I am saying this proposed redesign of the DS is not part of it. If this is blue ocean, then the PSP, iPhone, PS3, and 360 have all been using the blue ocean strategy right from the start.

Well, this strategy has done wonders for Sony.
