LOL, great article, and he's right about people ignoring good third party support (BlastWorks, Order UP)

@ yushire, Nintendo has to focus in creating new gamers, but that doesn't mean they are not putting attention to core gamers. Even Iwata said long ago that core gamers are their most important consumers. We may or may not be the main focus (which I think is 50-50), but core games will still be made, not only for us but the new core gamers created by the Wii/DS.

Sorry but my opinion right now was opposite from yours, its better to be not too optimistic and too hopeful than to be disappointed again and again. The last E3 tells me not to have high hope for Ninty, anyway I just play core games from the Wii when its available even though its not what I expected to be.

Soma is not giving an opinion. He is giving a fact. Whether people likes it or not that's what is happening. There's no reason to be pessimistic with Nintendo because they know what they are doing. They have proved it.

There are many people (like myself) that noticed that since 2005 Nintendo has been focusing less and less on the "Hardcore" fanbase at E3 ... Since some time in 2007 they have also cut back on really pushing their "Hardcore" titles at press events at all, and have tended to announce their games soon before they released them; and for the most part it has really worked out for them, being that almost all of their titles on the Wii have soon become one of the best selling versions in their series.

At there press event in October will they announce a "Hardcore" title? Probably, they certainly will have Disaster: Day of Crisis on display as well as their holiday line-up, but it is highly probable they will have a game that is supposed to release before March 31st 2009 to announce. Will this be a major announcement that people would expect? Probably not, it could be a well known series like F-Zero, Starfox or Punch-Out but it is unlikely that it will represent one of Nintendo's top tier games.

Metroid Prime 3 Corruption - 8/27/07
Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn - 11/5/07
Super Mario Galaxy - 11/12/07
Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 3/9/08
Mario Kart Wii - 4/27/08

The last game released by Nintendo for the Wii that interested me was released almost 5 months ago.

That's worth complaining about IMO.

I wish I could name a publisher that brings out a game I want every 5 months.

Well I could tell that it is right now, my last thread already proves it. The title was: "Ninty did it again! Advertising Wario Land by giving free gas X3". And I thought Nintendo let this game just sell by itself without any advertisements or promotions guess Im wrong. I think they will do this too on Disaster

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

I know.  I have trouble naming good 3rd party publishers for the Wii as well.  If I could I wouldn't be waiting on Nintendo for most all the really interesting titles.

I have to admit that the Nintendo fanboys reaction was kinda annoying after E3.

I much rather be surprised to learn that Kid Icarus or a new Zelda releases in 3 months than years in advance like Twilight Princess.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

This article can be used for any Console fanboy, not only Nintendo

Not really, as neither Sony or M$ have their focus to games like Buzz or Scene It!

Sure, those games are out, but not every game is centered around that audience. Now you can go out and say "Well, Nintendo still has Mario, Zelda, etc...." but they will ALWAYS have Mario, Zelda, etc. (and ironically enough, those staple 1st party franchises haven't really made Nintendo win any generations as of late)

my understanding of his post was that it meant that it can be said of any console fanboy to bitch about wiis lineup, not their own

well, if that's the case, then I retract my statement

@Godot: Haha, i think you nailed it. If Nintendo would announce they have a game coming years in advance, people would complain the same way when Nintendo wouldn't announce the release date and call it vaporware. Too bad we don't have a single example to prove i'm right.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Nice... but I guess you knew I wasn't talking about the Wii only.

With the huge budgets of PS360 games it's taking 2-3 years just to bring out a new game, never mind enough that everyone will like at least 1 game every 5 months.

Regarding Nintendo: I have bought and enjoyed 8 of their games in less than 2 years, and if I had the money I could have bought and enjoyed at least 8 more. 16 games in 2 years is perfectly fine for most people, so either you enjoy fewer genres of games than me or you stop playing games after you had them a month for some reason... and therefore any sizable gap in games you want results in no playtime at all. I meanwhile am still playing Mario Kart and Battalion Wars 2 (both bought in April).

Regarding third parties: I probably could name 16 games I want from the past 2 years of third parties too, admitedly the fact that a number of third parties can't grab my interest much more than Nintendo alone does prove they haven't been great for the Wii, but there are still some excellent games out there.

I'm glad you have such broad and diverse tastes and it's also nice that you're still enjoying games that came out last October and April.

If you're fine with waiting 6 months to a year for games then more power to you.  I'm not and I'm not into buying bad games and convincing myself they're good because there's nothing else to buy either.  >_<
