I believe it factored into his decision to make such a big deal about it, yes. Who talked about Lance Bass before he came out in such a fantastical fashion? 

erm...N'Sync fans.  They were a bit of a sensation if you will recall. 

Seriously, I think you're wrong.  People "come out" via magazines because they've been harassed about it for years and people already asume they are.  It's empowering for them because they can say, "Yeah...so what.  Quit asking." 

Do you realize the amount of negativity that will surround this announcement and how many fans he will lose because of it?

i have never seen this guy before, when i saw that picture, him holding the baby i thought he was the mother, i don't think he was fooling anyone from the beginning

N'Sync, for all intents and purposes, split up in 2002. Lance Bass had been irrelevant for nearly four years when he came out. I suppose liberation may have been somewhat of a factor, but the announcement of his autobiography almost immediately after his coming out party...that seems suspiscious to me. I would say he wanted the publicity, but I could be wrong.
