People "come out" via magazines because they've been harassed about it for years and people already asume they are. It's empowering for them because they can say, "Yeah...so what. Quit asking." Do you realize the amount of negativity that will surround this announcement and how many fans he will lose because of it?

N'Sync, for all intents and purposes, split up in 2002. Lance Bass had been irrelevant for nearly four years when he came out. I suppose liberation may have been somewhat of a factor, but the announcement of his autobiography almost immediately after his coming out party...that seems suspiscious to me. I would say he wanted the publicity, but I could be wrong.
