Forums - Gaming - Valve - Lazy? Bias? Unfair?? Don't Care????

Frankly Valve is a PC developer the only reason there are any Xbox360 updates is because the platform is easy to convert to.

EA did a PS3 version simply because they like to milk a game for all it's worth and don't care if the conversion is good or not. After service support? Updates? Forget them - This is EA.

Don't blame Valve - blame EA. Making a great developers look bad is what they excel at.

 This ^

As has been said already...

VALVE DIDN'T DEVELOP THE PS3 VERSION OF ORANGE BOX AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR UPDATES

The developer is!

Valve didn't want to touch the PS3, EA said they wanted the rights and this is the result.

Don't blame Valve, Blame

1. Sony for making programming the PS3 needlessly complicated

2. EA For not supporting THEIR product.

....I would suggest chaning the sentiment of this thread to reflect the truth, and take off your fanboy goggles

first off the 360 was just as complicated to program for in its beginning stages so that statement was unneccessary. and 2 if valve is making updates for the other versions they should atleast help EA by telling them what they are updating so they can take care of it. so there for the blame goes back to valve

Valve aren't EA, they only have a certain amount of people that can work on any one game, let alone multiple versions, plus they manage steam which would take quite a few employees to manage I should imagine. The reality is, if they can only make one version (besides the pc release) its inevitably going to be a 360 version because A, its easier to develop for, B its closer to the pc so easier to port and C, it has a larger install base. EA are notorious for their bad development habits on the ps3, thats improved by leaps and bounds thankfully, so any new versions should be significantly improved.

I'm sad that I won't be able to play Left 4 Dead. I've pretty much sworn off PC gaming after a nice 15 year or so run with it and I refuse to pay Microsoft for matchmaking services (host some goddamn servers for games and I'll think about paying for it). Here's hoping that Valve gets cracking on the PS3 ASAP because I love their games. Well, game because all they've really done is the Halflife series.

You do know that you can play pretty much any game on the pc online for free.  Even M$ just changed their Windows Live stuff to being free.

PS3 is based on tech that has been in use in seventies and early eighties. Its just nothing like regular computers out there. And I am not saying that in a good way. It was way too complex back then and I am sure its no easier now either.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asymmetric_multiprocessing

"Due to the complexity and unique nature of this architecture, it was not adopted by many vendors or programmers past its brief stint between 1970 - 1980."

vs

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symmetric_multiprocessing

"SMP systems allow any processor to work on any task no matter where the data for that task are located in memory; with proper operating system support, SMP systems can easily move tasks between processors to balance the workload efficiently."

(Bolded texts show why homogenous platform is much much easier to use.)

So if you still didn't get it heres what I mean:

Complex platform = less money for more work , I totally understand valve.

Also as a bonus , what will happen if there won't be similar kind of platforms in next generation? All work you have done for ps3 is lost. Well, you got screwed, but you can only blame yourself. ;)

Blah Blah Blah techy blah blah

http://vgchartz.com/games/index.php?name=Orange+bo&console=&region=All&developer=&publisher=&genre=&keyword=&boxart=Both&results=50&order=Hits

Simple calculation :

- 0.8 Mil on the 360 (not good...)

- 0.13 Mil on the PS3 (sucks...)

Going from the PC to the 360 is easy (return on investment ok + money from XBLA)... not on the PS3 apparently.

Also, EA, who was responsible for porting Orange box to the PS3 made a terrible job ... it was full of bugs.

Case closed.

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

No, when I said I refuse to pay Microsoft for matchmaking services, I was referring to the XBox360.  Great console with great games, but I hate having to pay to play online.  I "swore off" PC gaming for other reasons.

Wrong, the 360 was never as complicated to program for in its beginning stages as the PS3. It has always been developer friendly. It's built like a PC. Why do you think it is so easy to port from PC to 360?

Secondly, the update is simply content: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169381

Maps, game modes, weapons, etc.

EA knows what Valve is releasing. So, you might want to ask EA why they aren't offering this update to the PS3 users.

I'm pretty sure Valve didn't develop the PS3 port. That's probably why.

oh yeah...almsot forgot why i had no respect for valve. thanks for reminding me :]

Why? Because they created the best FPS ever made, and the richest game pacjkage ever released? Well, that's a reason of course!

half-life best FPS ever made? hardly...i honestly do not see why people consider half-life the best. ive played it and it was OK at best. same with counter-strike. the only game that i might consider good, although its not even out yet, is left4dead. other than that game, again its not out yet but i like it so far, i have not enjoyed any game they have made. oh and they are a bunch of nerdy douchebags....just read any interview and you will see the douche within them.

Half Life was name " Best Game of All Time" by PC GAMER in November 1999 and then again in October 2001 and then again in April 2005...
