Forums - Gaming - Why are there so few 90+ rated games for DS?

DS is the #1 selling system this gen.

It only has 3 games rated over 90.

PSP, the 2nd best selling system this gen, has it even worse.

Only 1 game over 90.

Are DS and PSP games really so mediocre, or are reviewers expecting too much from handhelds?  Should they change their criteria?

Maybe it's the consoles which have the broken review system, while handhelds are fine.

BEcause is not easy to get that kind of score....maybe you can think that reviewers are going crazy by throwing for example those 10's to GTA4, and other cases....but a game needs a lot to be a 90%, its not something that you will see everyday.

Combination of handheld bias and smaller marketing budgets (less hype/bought scores)

reviewers have always been bit harsh on handheld games, i can count loads of games on both PSP and DS that deserve 9 IMO

Because when there are MANY good games it gets TOUGHER to get the BEST score...

This is why I don't own any handhelds, I only buy AAAA games to satisify my hardcore gamer needs and handhelds just don't have them. And I definitely won't touch any game that has 89.999 rating on Metacritic, that 0.001 quality unit difference really does matter.

PS2 had 62 games rated over 90.

Because reviewers throw them all on the 360.......

And there is a natural handheld review bias within the industry.
