I'm playing Metroid Prime on hard mode (It's the best game ever, by the way).

I am continually dying on the second form of the final boss, not because it's hard but because the opportunities to damage it are very infrequent and the HP bar is massive. I therefore need as much health as possible going into the boss fight.

The problem is the Fission Metroids in the Phazon Core. They are practically impossible to kill and there is an infinite number of them. I can't get to the top because they rush at me on the small platforms and knock me into the super red Phazon. I lose more than 3 energy tanks as well as a lot of missiles and power bombs if I do get to the top - and I need all the power bombs for the Fission Metroids in the second form and the missiles for beam combos on the first.

Do you have any strategies for getting to the top of that room with full energy, missiles and power bombs? I don't mind how long it takes or what I have to do, as long as it is possible. I have 100% of items. Remember that there is a missile station halfway up I can hide in and/or refill missiles.

When you feel one comes after you, stop where you are, get into morph ball form and explode a power bomb in their face! If you've got all the Power Bomb upgrades, you should be fine for the final form of Metroid Prime, where he's going to shot at you three different kind of Metroids. Full power bomb is pratically impossible, so don't count on it, but you should have enough for three pools of Phazon. Remember, Nintendo bosses usually take three hits before they die anyway! xD

Let them attack you. Use power bombs.

i just went really fast. there are really only 2 places where you should even need to attack anyways if you move quick enough so just ignore them for the most part and be ready to power bomb as needed.

It's hard mode. It's more like 15 pools of Phazon. I need those power bombs.

SHMUPGurus: Thanks, but I can't get the jump height they can. It looks easy on the video, but that Ghetto Jump is impossible...

No, if I remember correctly, it shouldn't take you more than 3-4 pools before he's done for. Sorry if I'm mistaken though, I haven't played this game ever since the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption!

I managed to do it, but the use of two power bombs in the Core really cost me (Fission Metroids when pools were created). It was about 12 pools, and I was on about 3 energy left when I won. I got Gallery 3 though, so I'm happy.

Weren't the fission metroid based on color? So theoretically shoting them with the "right" beam kills them but I know it's much harder than that! I used power bombs on the metroids but sacrifiecd them for Prime (the boss that is)!
