Forums - Sony Discussion - FIFA 09, PS3 advertisement

If Sony really wanted to push sports games on the PS3, it would have made more sense to pin their name on commercials for the Pro Evolution series. It's way more popular in Europe, especially among casual gamers in southern European countries (Spain, Italy, Portugal). Plus, they would have had to pay quite a bit for an ad like that. Maybe EA themselves sees where the most money lies. You can never be too sure. After all, Fifa 08 put up some pretty amazing numbers on the Sony platforms last year (5.4 million combined among PS2, PS3, and PSP). With numbers like those, the choice seems clear, especially since a decent chunk of Fifa sales for the 360 version came from America.

Maybe Sony also made a deal with Konami.

In those southern countries, the PS3 is already more popular than the 360. The more you go to the norht (the more FIFA is popular?), the more people appreciate the 360, especially in the UK. It isn't a bad move at all.

@ reasonable..

my point is that I think Sony almost FULLY funded this ad and for them that is a waste of cash because its a guaranteed big seller anyway. Would make much more sense to promot LBP which I have seen absolutely no promotion in the UK for so far... zero.

Theres a massive LBP promo thing running in Manchester everyday til the 4th of october, so Sony are doing something atleast. But anyway, the advert was very good I felt; no mention of 360 whatsoever should be a boost for Sony.

Well Fifa is coming out two weeks earlier than Pro Evo, so there's still time i'd imagine before we see Pro Evo adverts.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Fifa is pretty popular in Latin America and is only really limited by factors there that affect other games (piracy, small market, lack of consoles, etc.).

Bladeneo: True, true.

Problem is FIFA just doesnt compare well with the Pro Evo series.

Its all style over substance.

Pro Evo is launching near as dammit at the same time and in Europe that gives Fifa no chance.

Pro Evo is renowned in Europe as the one true Football sim

you probably dont watching real football. FIFA is the true simulation. PES is arcade style of football...

@ Montana )

uhm? no, Fifa and PES are about equally popular in europe, Fifa especially in UK and Germany, PES in France, Spain and Italy

PES by no means is "way more popular" - it sold some hundred k more last year (across all versions), but that changes with every yearly edition

Well it is difficult to compare because FIFA is far more popular in the states, whereas PES is more popular in Japan, so I think PES just has the edge in Europe

Oh yeah, and PES is the true football sim

not this PES vs FIFA thing again!

Football Manager FTW!
