Forums - Sony - FIFA 09, PS3 advertisement

There was 1 other advert

There was no mention of Xbox at all, it showed everyone playing (inc Rooney) with a SIXAXIS, and there was a PS3 glimpsed in it. It started with a PS logo, it was quite awesome

my point is that I think Sony almost FULLY funded this ad and for them that is a waste of cash because its a guaranteed big seller anyway. Would make much more sense to promot LBP which I have seen absolutely no promotion in the UK for so far... zero.

Then why MS is wasting their time on Japan where PS3 already have 3-4 times bigger install base despite launching much latter. Last year both Fifa and Pes sold more on PS3 despite 360 having double the install base EU.

This game and PES will really help sony, even if they are not exclusive

Well LBP is 3 weeks further away that FIFA, and I think a football match is where you should be advertising FIFA. I have seen ads for it on the hoardings of every match I have seen on TV this year, I might have seen a PES ad once as well. Sony will advertise LBP, MS and R2 very well

kowenicki manchester city center has a dedicated lbp shop next a busy bus station, where i got to play lbp, that must have cost quite bit, itcloses 5th oct, but i will go back again to get my lbp fix

Sony did the same last year with Assassin's Creed adds, it only showed the PS3 logo at the end. A smart, but ugly way of making some people thinking certain games are exclusive to a certain system.

If Sony really wanted to push sports games on the PS3, it would have made more sense to pin their name on commercials for the Pro Evolution series. It's way more popular in Europe, especially among casual gamers in southern European countries (Spain, Italy, Portugal). Plus, they would have had to pay quite a bit for an ad like that. Maybe EA themselves sees where the most money lies. You can never be too sure. After all, Fifa 08 put up some pretty amazing numbers on the Sony platforms last year (5.4 million combined among PS2, PS3, and PSP). With numbers like those, the choice seems clear, especially since a decent chunk of Fifa sales for the 360 version came from America.

Well I think Sony will get their hands on PES advertising as well, but that has not started yet
