Forums - Sales - Obligatory Wii Music prediction—the number is 750,000

I think nintendo doesn't need programmers, art designers, voice actors anymore. They just need miyamoto and Iwata to get dunk and come up with crazy game ideas...

Still haven't counted the tally of my predictions from last year and this year (busy busy busy). But in a recent thread I wrote about the fate of Madden 2010 (see here and scroll down:http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=41939&start=0 ), in the midst of that conversation Gamerace mentioned something of interest...

The last time I made a prediction on Madden I ended up eating crow so I think I'll stay clear this time. Madden isn't my forte. But I don't think MS will give up it's Madden crown without putting up a big fight.

BTW: I'm surprised we havn't gotten a Wii Music prediction from you yet.

Well worry no more, Gamerace and Co., the shooting Starman has played the salsa beat across the night sky and I'm glowing rainbows.

"What John?"

I have a prediction, OK? Wow. Nobody likes my Nintendo-themed metaphors. It was supposed to signify inspiration from the heavens where luck is lef...never mind.

Opening week Wii Music sales: 750,000 minimum

VGChartz will display 3/4 of a million to display for Wii Music's opening week.

NPD's October monthly which we won't see until November will show that Wii Music clears 1,200,000 from that October 20th North American release date to the end of their October tracking period.

Like the others in the Wii series like Sports, Play, and Fit, Wii Music will be a tattoo on the monthly top ten in both VGC's & NPD's figures. It won't leave that list for months, years even.

That's right, laddies and gentlewomen, Wii Music will be yet another record-breaking success for Nintendo and its Wii. Usually when Nintendo enters a growing genre they innovate it to their benefit. Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and the rest will still run wild but Wii Music will carve out a nice chunk of this market for themselves. Those who find Guitar Hero and Rock Band too complex to learn will love Wii Music.

By year's end I expect Wii Music to exceed 3,000,000 in just U.S. sales alone.
Worldwide I expect them to clear 5,000,000 by year's end.

Yeah it's a little late but I gotta put something down for the record. Haven't been very active this year I admit.

Enjoy everybody!
John Lucas

LOL. You're as wrong as when you stated that Wii Fit would trump Halo 3's week record (in fact, Halo 3's sales in USA DAY ONE trumped Wii Fit's WEEK 1 sales WORLDWIDE). But good luck...

lol.

It's a John Lucas prediction, whaddya expect.

750k in one week? 1.2 mil in one month? 5 mil in ten weeks? That'd be astounding. The only game that managed that was Halo 3(?).

Halo 3, Halo 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto IV, SSBB?

Oh yeah, I forgot about GTA, and SSBB.  Wow, SSBB had an awesome first ten weeks.

Prediction: Of all the current and future Wii * games, Wii Music will have the lowest sales.

Huge hit in Japan

Mediocre in Others

Disappointment in the USA

The mass market - the same people buying Wii - are more than happy with Guitar Hero, so it will mainly be purchased for (I hate to say it because it's such a snobcore cliche) children, but just in the USA and Others. Japan will be huge on Wii Music among all age groups, it fits better into their culture, where the rock music of Guitar Hero isn't so strong.

(Malstrom fans: I know Wii Music is not a Guitar Hero copycat. The mass market doesn't.)

Wii Sports Resort will redeem the Wii * series of games with monster sales.  Motion Plus is the second coming of Wii.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

Fixed.

Thanks for indulging me JL. For once we are predicting totally different results. I look forward to seeing the results. Right or wrong it'll be interesting to watch.

Care to make a little wager to make it more interesting?

Folks for a totally different take see my prediction thread (link in my sig below.)

Err, I believe his refference to HAlo 3 and Wii Fit had a lot to do with Supply meeting demand during this coming christmas season, the pieces are very very very well placed for Wii Music to be the #1 selling software this season, the advertising campaign would have to put Halo to shame, I'm talking bigger than Wii Fit in Time square and Halo flavored Mountain Dew.

I'm certain it could attract those who fell off the Guitar Hero and Rock Band, those who had no interest in Rock Band and Guitar Hero (Like myself) and those who are already interested in Wii and it's games. That could be a total of around 3 million people, which would probably see a front load of 30% in the first month.

Wii Sports is just a case of freak sales in japan to me, but if Nintendo could emulate that model around the world with Wii Music, then ouch.

(30% Figure is an estimate based on Wiifit in the EU and not taking into consideration supply.)

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
