Final Fantasy IV: The After could be making it's way to Western Shores according to several sources close to Square-Enix.
For some time now there has been a buzz that The After, a direct sequel to Final Fantasy IV following the son of Cecil and Rosa - Ceodore - would be making its way to Western Final Fantasy fans in some way, shape or form.
In Japan The After is a mobile phone game released in episodes, and sees most of the cast of the original Final Fantasy IV return to assist the new characters. The game takes place some time after the original, and makes use of the tweaked engine from Final Fantasy IV Advance.
The game features a 'band' ability which allows characters to join together for more powerful attacks, similar to twin magic in the original.
The buzz surrounding The After has been reignited by comments by Producer Takashi Tokita, also responsible for most of the FF4 universe games - FF4, FF4Advance, FF4 DS and the After. When asked by a fan if they would ever remake FF4 -again- for next gen consoles, Tokita replied:
"We just remade it, so it's a bit of a stretch... [Laughs] Currently the sequel, FINAL FANTASY IV the After: Tsuki no Kikan is available for mobile phones in Japan. We'll do our best to make this game available for our overseas audiences as well!
These comments made us at RPGSite take action, and we've since been in contact with several sources at Square-Enix. Our gut feeling was that these games running on a GBA engine would be perfect for the DS - but our sources indicate that the remake will not be for a handheld console, but in fact for the Nintendo Wii.
It's evident from Tokita's comments that an announcement is coming. Based on the word of our insiders, could the episodic mobile game be coming to Wii Ware, retaining it's episodic format? We'll bring more as we get it.

Seems like a stretch to me, unless they're thinking of going the WiiWare route, but getting more of the greatest RPG ever is hardly a bad thing. And while I know there aren't too many posters from Japan on this site, does anyone have any impressions for The After that they'd care to share?
