they do, they are working on "wii 2" super wii already.

 Of course they are working on the next Wii allready, all compannies start working on the next console immedietly but they usualy don´t have a release date ready so soon MS has one allready and obviously Sony has a date in mind too and Nintendo maybe had a date in mind but with their lead I bet you that the date they had in mind is scraped by now and their riding the wave out to see when it´s most suitable for them to release their next console.

I think Sony should release it for US $999 and then they should try to convince the world that it is the ultimate game machine without games... but it will have game in the future... when the aliens will invade the earth they will bring the games with them and those games will only be compatible with PS4... so it will serve them for lifetime.. It should not have any backward compatibility so that people should not be able to play any game until aliens invade..

I wouldn't expect them to annouce the new Playstation before a year before it's release or some such. All companies I presume are working on their next gen machine but with Sony, i think it'll just be an upgrade. Stick with the PSN, Sixasix/Dualshock, stick with Blu-ray just up the capacity to 200GB limit and read speed up a bit, a new upgraded Cell and nice wack of RAM and job done. No new technology that costs loads, they could even feature full PS1 and PS2 BC by then as software based BC probably.

Oh and this 10 year plan thing, PS2 is still going after 8. Yet the PS3 is out. So I expect when they talk about a 10 year plan they just mean the life of the PS3 not when they are going to release the PS4.

What we do know is that there is absolutely no chance in hell it will be getting released 10 years after PS3 came out.

next-gen systems are dead. If there's a PS4, it will be a repackaged PS3.

I don't think the next Wii or Xbox will be that technoligically superior to the Ps3. The Ps3 will be able to sell still until they want the Ps4 on the market. 10 years support for Ps3 is a yes still.
