Forums - Sales - LTD

<rant>

Can we please stop using the acronym LTD for the sales of games that have not yet been released? LTD sales = lifetime to date sales, of which all unreleased games have exactly 0. Plenty of other ways to construct the sentence: I think x game is going to sell y copies total or sell y copies over its lifetime.

LTD sales is specifically intended to reference a date.

Sorry guys, stressed at work. :)

what are you going on about?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

erm...we have an OCD thread running somewhere around here. Perhaps you'd like to share.

Nahh, it's the Internet. When people have decided to say something, you can't make them change (don't link to my thread about banning words :P).

I'm obsessed with correct grammar in real life, but on here, you just have to accept that people don't want to.

I'm afraid you'll have to replace that "don't want to" with "can't" for most people.

LTD - launch to date or lifetime to date - refers to game or console sales from its initial release to present date

So why do you have LTD in your sig if it doesn't refer to lifetime till today?

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Because it is specifically referencing a date (end of calendar year 2008).

In other words, "as of such date the LTD sales will be such" is valid while "as of (no date mentioned) the LTD sales will be" is meaningless.

But your misusing the phrase, it's supposed to be till present day.

I don't even know why I'm arguing about this. Who's been misusing the phrase in the first place? I haven't really caught anyone doing it or maybe I have, but I never really thought about it. o_O

He is right, you should use the term "lifetime" to refer to all sales throughout its life. LTD stands for all sales up to this point in time.

For games that aren't release or are still selling the LTD sales =/= lifetime sales.

With that said, it doesn't really bother me since it's easy enough to figure out what people mean.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Oh the irony...Look at your own sig....;)

Uhh it doesn't really bother me much...
