Forums - Gaming - Why MS did what they did at E3, Peter Moore interview

Yep, this sums up exactly what I've been saying the past 40-some hours:

"I think our challenge was, this E3, yesterday, that we were going to have to short-change things this holiday to talk about the future. I'm very cognisant; we had people sat on concrete steps and wanted to get in and out in an hour and fifteen minutes, plus we were on television. It was important we focused on - and we may have been wrong - but we wanted to focus on this 2007, and then we've got plenty of opportunities, whether it's Leipzig, or TGS, or other opportunities in the future to talk about 2008."

It's a good read.

I also like how he refutes the $50m for exclusive GTA content. He implies that money traded hands, but not $50m.

It was in the Take 2 meeting transcript, it was 50 million.

Also, it sounds like a lot of reassurance and damage control over not showing anything new at their conference by implying they will show them later, of course they will as will Sony and Nintendo too.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

lol, I aggry,
The fact to interviews Peter Moore just after Microsoft conference is damage control.

I don't think it sounds like damage control at all. I think it sounds like a pretty honest answer to why MS held their conference the way they did.

If this was the old E3, you can bet that things would have been different. But it's a newer, smaller E3 and MS had a lot of game demos to show for games that people will actually see on shelves within the next few months.

Besides, they're now releasing info on some 2008 games... Fable 2 was at E3 and Halo Wars was, too. They also finally released a video for the penultimate vaporware, Too Human. It's not as if they're ignoring 2008 at E3, they just didn't focus on it in the keynote. I don't see how that was spin control unless MS stopped time and imported booths and playable demos to E3 overnight and Peter Moore did the interview to stall people from talking about it for four hours.

And definitively it was damage control,
This doesn't mean that Microsft will not be able in a near future to show amazing games.

It's true that MS's conference didn't go all that well, and that what he said sounded a bit like damage control. But the simple fact that he was interviewed afterwards implies nothing.

Myamoto has spent the entire day on hotel room interviews, round tables, etc. He also pointed out that Nintendo's conference was geared to the casuals, and took the time to talk about more core stuff like Galaxy. Is that damage control too, or sticking to the plan?

The same for Reggie who had a couple of interviews, and I imagine Sony's speakers too. This is pretty standard E3 stuff.

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

Damage control?  G4 and other media outlets cover E3 had interviews with people from all three conferences.  I suppose the interviews Shigeru Miyamoto gave after Nintendo's E3 conference were damage control as well?

*Edit: oops I should have scrolled down and read the entire thread before replying, KruzeS's reply explained it all.
