Forums - Nintendo - Sam & Max Dated for Oct. 7 Release, MSRP only $30!

SAN RAFAEL, September 17, 2008 – Telltale and The Adventure Company are announcing that the highly-anticipated Sam & Max Season One for Wii™ will be in retail stores across North America starting October 7. Thanks to this console debut, for the first time Telltale’s award-winning comedy series can be enjoyed in the comfort of the living room, bringing you closer than ever to the experience of playing your favorite television show.

The Sam & Max series is structured like a TV series, with self-contained episodes that tie into a larger overarching storyline as the season progresses. The Wii version collects the first six-episode “season” of Sam & Max games on one retail disc. In Season One, straight-laced canine detective Sam and his psychotic “rabbity-thing” sidekick Max are on the hunt for the mastermind behind a baffling hypnosis conspiracy. Players get to interrogate suspects (with amusing results), uncover clues, solve puzzles, and ultimately piece together the underlying mystery that links the episodes.

The story-focused gameplay and simple “point and click” interface have a low learning curve, and a new tutorial ensures that even players new to the Sam & Max experience will be up to speed in minutes. Sam & Max Season One for Wii also has a few technical improvements over the PC original, including widescreen support.

To welcome the arrival of the first Sam & Max console game, GameStop (NYSE: GME) is offering a special preorder deal. Customers who reserve the game in stores or through GameStop.com before the October 7 release will receive a CD containing Sam & Max bonus content, including a behind-the-scenes “making of” featurette, trailers, concept art, a soundtrack sampler, and desktop wallpapers. More details can be found here: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=72515

Sam & Max Season One for Wii will retail in North America for $29.99 (USD). Release information for Europe and other territories will be announced soon. A trailer, screenshots, and additional game details can be found at the official website: http://www.samandmaxgame.com/wii

All six episodes on a disc for a mere $30? Telltale, why do you love me so much?

The only acceptable excuses not to get this game are if you hate the genre or if you own it already.

I already own it for PC, and well, I've already pre-orded it for Wii. I just love giving TellTale my money, it's like a bad habit or something...

More adventure games on the Wii please!

Runaway, The Dream of the Turtle, the latest instalment in the internationally successful adventure series, is due for release on Nintendo Wii and DS in November 2008 by Ascaron and Focus Home Interactive. With over one million PC players worldwide, the wacky adventures of Brian and Gina will now be available for Wii and DS owners, providing engaging and fun packed adventure for all ages.

Brian Basco, a former science student, and his girlfriend, Gina Timmins, are enjoying a relaxing holiday in Hawaii. On a visit to Tiki Falls their plane crashes into the jungle, leaving them uninjured but separated. As they desperately try to find each other their thrilling adventures begin. Travelling to the four corners of the globe, they come face to face with soldiers, pirates, spies, surfers and even aliens.

Stunning graphics, mind bending puzzles, bamboozling riddles, great humour and a superb soundtrack are all on offer to players as they help Brian on his quest to find Gina. Over one hundred different exotic locations, including the ruins of The Temple of Tiki, the beautiful Luana Beach and the cascading Tiki waterfalls, provide the backdrop for this truly unique adventure.

On Nintendo Wii
Players can use the Wii Remote to enjoy Point & Click gameplay, exploring the 100 different humorous and vibrant locations. Unique 3D and 2D graphics and animated sequences bring the game to life, enhancing the interaction between the player and the world of Runaway, The Dream of the Turtle. The interactive help section on the Wii also provides a useful new feature to assist with more difficult puzzles.

This is the second Runaway game. The third one, Twist of Fate, will come to Wii, DS and PC in '09.

What's sad is that I already went to the store twice this month feverishly looking for a copy. Stupid IGN and their lying, teasing ways...

P.S. Enjoying this adventure game renaissance we're having, even if I still miss the glory days of LucasArts. That is all.

@noname2200:
That´s why I said it´s about time.
I don´t understand why it takes ages to port these games to Wii and DS. Ankh was released for DS in Germany this week after a one year(!) delay - well, at least it´s the first adventure with full voiceover, but technically it´s again only a mediocre port. Why did they take a year for a mediocre result. Runaway was already (quite poorly) ported to DS months ago and the Wii version was delayed several times. Is Secret Files - the best port of an European adventure - meanwhile out in NA? I bought the original (the German) version half a year ago. Sam & Max, a one year old game, also delayed several weeks. These games are not Final Fantasies for HD consoles, they are ports of old games (even the localization of these games are already available from PC).

I have higher hopes on the technical quality of Sam & Max (the game quality is out of question). This genre needs more US developers. The European developers just cannot deliver the same quality. Too bad the genre is mainly popular in Europe nowadays.

Fantastic news and a must have game.

And let us continue to pray to the gods of old school gaming that we'll one day see new iterations of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango.
