So is it not even worth buying for JRPG fans on a console starved of them??
This is a serious question as I am thinikng of buying it...

Are you asking me this as a gamer, or asking a retorical question about the Japanese market?
As an owner of Eternal Sonata, I'm rather mixed on how to answer "should I buy it?".
As a X360 owner, I can honestly say there are about 3-4 JRPGs available that are better than Eternal Sonata (on the 360). I bought it full priced ($60) and enjoyed the game quite a bit (I'd personally rate if a 7.75 to an 8), but it has it's inherant flaws - of which, I really doubt a PS3 version was/is going to fix. The dialogue (at least for the English version) has to be the WORST I've ever seen. The ending doesn't make sense, and about 1/2 of the way through, your confused about WTF is even going on.
But it does have it's bright points - the graphics are gorgeous, and if you have an HDTV, they are the best graphics of almost any available RPG. The combat is pretty good, and the game isn't as flawed as the other available PS3 JRPG - Enchanted Arms (also a X360 game I have beaten).
If your REALLY starved for a JRPG...And you don't like/don't want Disagea 3 or Valkyria Chronicles, I'd say consider it. If you have a friend to play with (in my case, my fiancee), it DOES make for great fun, as the game is 3 player offline co-op in battles.
The next question is: What did the Playstation 3 version add? I know there's more story and such to it. You'd really have to ask someone that's played (and beat) both the PS3 and X360 versions to know exactly what you'd get with Eternal Sonata on PS3.
