All right, I've had about enough of this.

NINTENDO DOES NOT MAKE ALL THE GAMES.

If Halo were ported to the Wii, or MGS4 or GTA were ported the Wii, we would not be having this argument. The games most of you guys like to quote, the WiiFit, Metroid 3, they're 1st party games.

Bitch bitch bitch.

Seriously guys, Nintendo has never made a "hardcore" game, and they probably never will. They have all they'll ever want in Mario, Pokemon, etc.

It's up the the third parties to make Nintendo hardcore.

well but konnichiwa, NOBODY announced new games at E3! Please tell me a game that has been announced only at E3 and we didn't know about before. I don't think there are more than five worth mentioning, one of them is Mario Kart.

Let we go ten years ago in the past when Nintendo 64 was launched me as an Nintendo fanboy that time was one of the happiest boys in the world. I see my old friends in 3D and I can tell you I was almost crying when I saw Mario in 3D and the same with Zelda but when I was playing N64 I made some new friends like Banjo Kazooie who were damned so great I am pretty sure when you think about your N64 you are probably thinking about the great time you had with Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dard and golden Eye...

But now ten years later they don't surprise me anymore, Okay we have mario again, Metroid but when I was watching
the NIntendo conference 07 I was expecting Miyamoto would jump on the floor and introduce a new character into
the nintendo universe just for example Zario the crazy evil half blood brother of Mario who lives in Russia who is so
scary that Bowser and Wario are shitting their pants of when they see him.

And make an game about him.

I mean Miyamoto is the best or one of the best gaming developpers of the world I can not believe he
doesn't have any ideas anymore.

I just want that kind of magic back when I played the Snes and was introduced to Donkey Kong country or N64
banjo Kazooie.

I miss it.

And if you are happy about it okay but I miss it.

If you want to change that maybe you should become a game developer.  You're asking very specifically for something YOU want.   Try to jump outside that box.

 You miss my point!

They surprised me before on N64 with new franchises that I loved and not loved but that is great I can believe that their are hardcore fans who will always enjoy Mario and zelda but I am kind of a guy who gets tired of sequels of a game after a while like Tekken, Tomb Raider, Soul Calibur, Grant Turismo.
Look I am some kind of tired of games like Ratchet and Clank and Jax and Daxter but what are those two developpers doing?  They bring new games  like Resistance and Uncharted okay I did not loved Resistance so much but damned I want Uncharted so much.

I don't say the Wii is not making new games but that are not really big games I want just new characters new kind of stories and not again an Italian guy who have to save the princess for the 35 time

I cannot believe that you are saying that an expansion of the video game market is a bad thing. Not only does it inject millions upon millions of consumer dollars into the industry, it also enables the console producers to make better and better systems. There was a time, that you may not remember, where video games died. For several years after the colapse of Atari, there was nothing. Then came the NES who did things alot differently than anyone had done in the past, and video games became mainstream again. Super Mario Bros. was being played by 7 year olds and 50 year olds. Duck Hunt? Still alot of fun to this day. Wii is doing the same thing. Making things simple is not a bad thing.

All gaming companies go where the money goes, and don't give a shit about their customers or any of these things, as long as the grannies and mommies continue to buy their products. Nintendo has found a way to make money with low budget, crappy mini-game compilations and fitness games, so that's where they'll stick to... The only thing you should expect is more rehashed franchises.

You really have to make up your mind. First you complain that Nintendo is ruining the gaming industry for making new IPs and creating new genres and making games to capture casual gamers. Now you complain that they are not making new IPs.

They have made new IPs, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Nintendogs, Brain Age.

Now you go to the tired old arguement that Nintendo is still holding on to their old IPs. Here's a hint fanboy: ALL COMPANIES DO THAT. Ten years ago there was Silent Hill, MGS, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Tekken, GT, Final Fantasy, Doom, blahblahblah. Why do fanboys think Nintendo is the only one that does this? Why don't you call up Sony and tell them to be a little more creative and stop calling their machines Playstations?

Here's another analogy. Say we are talking about the car industry. You have some high performance cars like Porches and Ferraris ok? You also have Honda selling the NSX. Then Honda decides to create and sell the Civic. The civic is more appealing to the non car enthousiast. Honda also still sells the NSX though for those car enthousiasts. Is Honda ruining the car industry?

What if they expand their normal car lines to include all sorts of other models that the non car enthousiasts like, still retaining the NSX for those with the cash and drive to buy and maintain one? When do they start ruining the car industry because they aren't solely targetting the core enthousiast market?

I guess that's a pretty good analogy. Apart from the fact that THEY DON'T MAKE THE NSX ANYMORE!!!!! I'm sorry, but that it complete ignorance on your part. In the Same way that Nissan only makes boring cars as they don't make the Skyline anymore. It was almost the same with Ford, although they redeemed themselves by creating the Ford GT (however that's noit really a good example as it is completely different to their normal cars). Seriously, the only way a car company has ever been successful at satisfying different types of customers is by creating an extra part of them, or buying another company. Ie Toyota has Lexus, Nissan has Infiniti, Honda has Acura, VW and Audi are one and the same, GM has Jaguar and did have Aston Martin.

IMO it is impossible to cater for 2 different types of customers. One of them is going to lose.

Oh god, fine pick one they do make.  Sheesh, it was a f***ing example.  Use the S2000 then if you want.  Or the Nissan 350Z.

You made my point for me anyway.  Honda has Acura, Toyota has Lexus, Nissan has Infinity.  All those companies sell cars aimed at the mass market and cars aimed at the enthousiast.  They haven't damaged the car enthousiast market at all.  If you accept the predictions of those Anti-Nintendo people, then Ferrari and Porshe should have gone out of business along time ago.

Next time, don't just nit pick about details, take the entire example and use it sheesh.

Well if you don't think nintendo's goal describes you, don't support the company.Simple. Sony or Microsoft are more than happy to provide you with games. But seriously how many titles should nintendo anounce for the Wii/DS this year so the "core" players be happy?

Mario Kart is coming

Brawl is coming

Galaxy is Coming

Corruption is coming

Fire Emblem is coming

Hourglass is coming

Disaster still has a releace date for 2007 and was reported still in development.

Third party support is very strong. DQS,Revenant Wings, Umbrella Cronicles,Soul Calibur Legents, Fifa,Madden, Medal Of Honor,No More Heroes, Mario & Sonic, Warhammer, Sonic RPG, ASH, and lots more.

I mean, Reggie himself said it on-stage that Nintendo supports the "core" gamers. Still his stament wasen't enough, because he presented WiiFit, and this fealt like a betrayal to those who think that videogames are only about having brainless fun.Why should games be only for that crowd? Non-videogames players labeled gamers everywere as sexless, obese, smelly teens with cheetos stained fingers for years. Nintendo opens gaming to a far biger audience, creating new gamers but no, they are just in for the money, and we should be elitist snobs because they give attention elsewere than us that catering to our every desire. A desire that as it seems is satisfied only by the need to pop-up 10 identical games each year, 7 of them FPS (dark and gritty, don't forget.).And check this out. Nintendo have some of the strongest fan support in the history of gaming, they carried them though the VB,n64,CG eras and that must meen that they had to give their fans what they wanted right? Or else they would have bailed on them. Now nintendo is providing in the first year of the console most of the strongest titles and franchises they have, but they betray the "core" gamer? Grow up.

Nintendo isn't giving you Halo or Killzone because they don't want it so. Saying that only those kind of games warrant the right to be called hardcore is naive. Just because you blast something be it Aliens, Humans, Robots, Zombies, you think that's what everybody wants? Nintendo always supported all genres of gaming not just FPS. Is that what videogames is redused these days? Then i'm glad to be supporting Nintendo. Thankfully if that is not the case with you, you have from 2 other companies to choose from. They have the right to chase other crowds as you have the right to bitch about it.

Btw, this "hardcore" "softcore" sounds like the porno industry. I blame it all on Mario. Just because Mario isn't a Badass, Alien liquidating MoFo with ginormous guns, he gives the opportunity to everyone to bash nintendo as kiddy, casual, girly, and lots of other stupid comments. How dare you Mario for being a care-free, colourful (Not grey, black, brown, and otherwise simillar) multi-millionaire in sales, synonym for gaming.

"You won't find Adobe here in Nairobi"

I'm really sad, I used to be a very big nintendo fan, now I'm not even exited about Mario Galaxy, this generation of nintendo is not for me. I understand that some people really like the new casual game style, not me. I love my 360, I haven't play wii in 3 months and hopefully I'll buy a PS3 on November.
I kind of agree with the original post, but the difference is that I don't feel they betrayed me, my feeling is that they changed and I don't want that... maybe I'm the one how's betraying them.

Developers are jumping on board the "appeal to the masses" train.

They're going to make lots of money with stupid party games.

When developers make lots of money, they can afford to spend enormous amounts of time and money developing games that appeal to elitists like yourself.

HTH.

The problem I see is ferrari building slow SUV and forgetting about being the fastest car around... that would dissapoint lots of ferrari fans, right?
