Forums - Sales - Would the Wii be as succesfull with a PS360 ?

What if the XBOX 360 and PS3 weren't competitors but were one console ?

Where would the Wii be in terms of sales right now , what price point would this fantasy console be at currently and how much would it have sold.

Some things are certain however.

Advantages

- Sony & Microsoft both lost between $5 - $12 Billion this generation imagine how competetive they could be against the Wii with this kind of money

- If it supported Blu-Ray/HD-DVD it would have become the standard far earlier than it was saving hundreds of millions.

- Increased consumer confidence in one format would likely mean the HD market would be larger than it currently is.

- Developers would have optimised games for the PS360 better.

- GTA , Final Fantasy , DMC4 , Mass Effect , Bioshock ,Gears Of War , Uncharted , Halo 3 , MGS4 , Fable and many more ALL ON ONE CONSOLE WTF !!!

- Huge online gaming community, Home would have an audience large enough to compete with Myspace.

- More internal development from Microsoft & Sony

I predict that the PS360 would have an install base of around 45 Million with a price point of £250 , $300 .

Disadvantages

- If the console was too succesfull price point would drop much slower

-Developers receive less funding or no funding because there are no exclusive games

They would have smashed the Wii:)

The Wii would have even more marketshare. If the PS360 were one console all it would have less than the combined 36 million usebase both consoles have now. A good number of hardcore games own both consoles. "Hardcore" gamers seem to fail to understand why the Wii is successful and why it sells so well. The combined fantasy console would still fail to appeal to the casual and lapsed gamer markets that the Wii has tapped into.

Truth be told?

The Wii probably still would have curb-stomped it.

You're talking about a super mega gestalt console that eats trucks and poops electricity, right? Yeah.

Too big, too expensive, too complicated, too likely to piss off shareholders, Microsoft has no reaso nto support it because without competition they're not in danger of their PC stranglehold being loosened...

This super console would have been doomed to die from day one.

No not a console that was the PS3 + 360 but a PS3 and the 360 not neccaserily double the power but a fusion of the two.

So basically you're saying

What if the PS3 or 360 had been the ONLY HD console this gen, and gotten all that delicious support.

Is that about right?

No what if the PS360 was one console and was a collboration between Sony & Microsoft.

Then it still would have been curb-stomped.

So it would sell 10 million more than the two of them put together have now, despite the fact that several million of those are people who own both.

Got it.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Wii would still outsell combined product of MS and Sony, consumers are showing that they do not want an HD console.
