A two week wonder :)

Pretty good week for the 360, it's a shame that it's not as big as people are making it out to be.

Compared to the PS3 launch with MGS4 this isn't too much. Let's be realistic people. This week was just extremely perfect for the XBOX 360. A price drop, pent up demand, and a huge game. Yet this only managed to do 28k or whatever this week. While the PS3, costs 2x that of the XBOX 360 (JP), didn't have a price drop the week prior to MGS4, didn't have low supply the weeks before managed to do triple what the 360 did this week, and beat everything (save for DS) in Japan, but by much larger margins than 1500 units.

If anything, this sends a sign to SE that no matter what happens, 360 sales may never pick up to that of PS3 in Japan.

The folks getting too excited over this need to add last weeks 360 numbers in Japan to this week and divide by two before getting their hopes up.

It was nice but it was the combination of many factors including being horribly out of stock the week before... quite fun to see but don't expect it to be regular and remember PS3 spikes with games are comfortably above this as is its lead in the region so I wouldn't expect MS to have any real shot at 2nd in Japan.

I will say though that MS are clearly going to throw everything at coming in 2nd or very close 3rd this time around.

Should be an interesting 18 months ahead of us as the next two Decembers (2009 and 2010) are going to be crucial.

These are great numbers for the 360, a console everyone thought was dead in Japan.  With numbers earlier this year dropping down to the 1500-2k a week level, it would be amazing for them to even match Sony's pathetic 10-12k weekly levels.  I think following this price cut and the new interest generated in its JRPGs, we'll see that number reach 10k+ weekly.  

And with Last Remnant coming out at the end of November, this is going to be a very interesting holiday season. 

Its sad that the 360 fanboys' hopes will be smashed next week....as just like the TOV boost.....it will go down.

Its a good week and will definitely leave some positives for MS to take forward.

The big question is whether the 360 can hit Sony's albeit low 10k next week , can it really start getting some real momentum rather than being - in Japan at least - a 3 trick pony (ToV, IU, TLR).

Even the most stubborn Sony fanboy must admit that MS deserve SOME success in Japan and i think hitting 1 million before next summer must now be seen as a distinct possibility.

Sometimes They Come Back.  

360 wont stay at this level, but it is possible that the 360 will stay right around the same level as the PS3.

During the summer the 360 was increasing in sales nearly every week with a big bump with ToV came out. Only MS clearing the pipeline for the new 360's did it slow down. Now with IU and 360's in stock again in Japan the improvement should continue.

wow 28k for 1 week, for a rpg/price cut week

i think next week, 360 jap sales will go down to around 15k - 15.3k

and after that who knows.
