Forums - Gaming - Call of Duty 4 is overrated

I just got it for the PS3 last weekend. It is for me groundbreaking, can anyone give me another fps that keeps the single player game so fresh from act to act? Graphically is there a better fps on a console out there? Is there another fps with such variety of game play outhere? Is there a more simple to understand yet amazingly well presented story in another fps? For me the answer to all these questions are in COD4's favour and that is only the single player! having a positive in all these places can only mean its ground breaking, the market leader, the fps that all other fps's will wish to emulate.

assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

MP is great. SP however is lacking due to lack of co-op, vehicles and anything that is considered "fun" in other FPS games. This really hurts the replayability of the game. Halo 3 single player is not as engaging on the first play but it has 10 times the replayability with the 4 player co-op and the skulls, vehicle carnige etc...

Instead we did get great story, awesome presentation and lots of variety.

Some missions are kinda dated however. the whole situation of having the whole team wait while you have to search for the rocket launcher is not very good or smart level design at all. May as well go back to "look for the red key to open the door."

So while its definetly a AAA game...i think its slightly overrated in the hype it gets.

COD4 lacks tactical integration and in it's essence is nothing more than a deathmatch. The terrain design is the worst part of the game since pretty most of them are very straight-forward, which doesn't convey a good handling of multi-way offense and inteligent defense.

Infinity Ward should take some pointers from Splash Damage, which made Quake Wars.

Other than that, COD4 is pretty solid, one of the better Shooter experiences today.

Well, it is the best FPS this generation and the most refreshing online gaming experience I've had in forever.

Amazing game.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I think you've got COD4 confused with Halo

I wouldn't say its overrated, but it was an awesome FPS that changed a lot. Simply the EXP you earn can be used for upgrading or unlocking certain weapons online.

The story mode, which I haven't played yet looks pretty decent. And I have played the online portion of Call of Duty 4 and its soooooo freaking addicting.

I know it's your opinion, but you haven't stated if you played it or not. For all we know your a Nintendo user that has a Nintendo avatar and is only playing Nintendo games other than Sims 2. So how should we believe you? You could just be trolling this game..who knows?

I said my two cents about the game. It's not overrated. I think your simply underrated it, because you can't get into it.

Play your Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl and stay out of the FPS genre...Thanks a bunch!!

I think the bottom line from many posts here is that it doesn't bring anything new to the table but it immerses you with the characters, and everything just fits into each other for a really good, tight first player experience. Not to mention the graphics. I never played online.

*SPOILER TO FOLLOW*

heck, i even felt sad when Gaz and the boys got taken out in the end. That's not normal for me for video games.

I think SP is the best FPS experience ever because it did focus on providing a gripping and realistic core experience instead of adding lots of gimmicks that are considered fun in other FPS. I think the lesson for FPS developers should be that they can get awesome sales with a game without having every feature that is considered "neccessary" today if they make the game awesome.

Regardless I do agree there is an element of overratedness in that it's just a very well put together FPS with great online capabilities. I woulds give it a 8/8.5. Many other games out there has had their ratings hurt for lack of innovation even though the game itself was really good. There is apparently something that exists in this game that makes a difference, it seems.

mind you i never played the game again after one play through.

True...Its very gripping the first time around...but 7 hours later i found that i will never want to replay the single player game as its very liner, scripted...on rails almost...and I have seen and played everything there was to play.
