Well, here is the way I look at it. MGS4 made a profit. MGS4 received high ratings. MGS4 moved hardware. MGS4 is still selling respecfully. This is success. So in regards to "expectations," is there really an issue here???

So question, is MGS2's lifetime 5.58 mil vastly undertracked? Or is there just no week to week data?

Actually the graph comparing to MGS3 seems to have all data and shows how well MGS4 is crushing MGS3.
Sadly I have no idea on how to include graphs in posts...
PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !
PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Mgs 2 came to Xbox and Pc...Tho I dont remember anything about Xbox version..
Mgs 1 came to Pc as well,sooo lets say Mgs 1 and Mgs 2 sold 7m each...
...Weeell...Mgs 4...As a fan It was probably main reason for me to get Ps3.With Final fantasy and Devil may cry..
So, lets just say about 1/8 bought Ps3 because of mgs 4.. 2m.

I think Guns of the Patriots sold considerably well, considering PS3 userbase being significantly smaller then the PS2's. It stil continues to sell, i don't think anyone is dissapointed espiecially not Konami, Sony should be also happy.

Yeah that's what I meant by "we all know how that's gonna turn out." But beating MGS3 isn't really that impress of an achievement, I guess.

So MGS2 standard version did sell 5.58 mil?
Then MGS4 still has an outside chance of matching it, doesn't it?
Consider that MGS2 was released around the holidays, and MGS4 was released in the middle of summer. No surprise MGS4 is undertracking.
I guess we'll have a much better picture come January 1st.

As a game - It surpassed my expectations and is now one of the best 2 games I've ever played.
Sales - It's doing better than I thought considering the User base of the games of the MGS series on their releases.
