Nope.  The OP is a question, not a statement or an argument.

Since you can't refer to any predictions, I'll refer to your "6-8 mil" argument as speculation (per the usual).

This entire thread represents a question, replied to with speculative opinions from others.

Much like 99.65% of the comments made on this site, all of what is in this thread is speculation, bar the sales figures that currently exist.....well below previous numbers.

I think its premature to judge MSG4 sales to pref MSG games just yet.. MSG4 is still selling reasonably (And still reasonably new) well while the market for the other MSG games are long since over.

I don't think its smart to judge a game thats been out for a few months vs games that have been out for a few years and after a year or 2 of sales hit 5 million odd sales. Imo look at the trends after X period and attach-rate.

I think we can safely say it has MORE than met expectations in NA. It has met exectations in EU & in Japan

Let me remind you now of some xbot predictions who said MGS4 would be lucky to get past 3 million.....some said it would never even reach MGS3's sales.

so the ludicrous predictions go both ways.

Starcraft cherrypicked peoples perdictions. (Then he doesn't provide proof to back them up and tells us we need to look ourselves for them or just take his word on it)

And then everyone said MGS3 sales were on a HUGE platform install base and that the series was dying so MGS4 would sell a lot less than it.

MY OP is a question, not a statement.

Judging by the (reasonable) responses, it appears many believe some party's expectations have not been met, and some have.

Largely yes.  I never really bought grandoise claims of console revival and super-high, past-installation beating sales.

The launch was somewhat disappointing to me, but was made up in part by stronger than expected legs.

MGS2 sold over 1 million in Japan alone with all versions included and over 7 million WW.

As one of the best titles available on the PS3, the game will continue to sell through the holidays.

By next holiday season, possibly earlier, it will become a greatest hits title, which will make it an easy choice initial pick up title for new PS3 owners.

It sold over 1m on Day 1, and its performance has been on par with previous MGS games so far. Didn't add up the numbers, but it looks like it's been edging out MGS3 in sales which would make greater overall sales a logical conclusion.

Considering the vast difference in user bases between the PS2 and the PS3, that amounts to a better attach rate than any previous MGS game, which is likely to be reflected as the PS3 user base expands, particularly as a greatest hits title.

Konami said that MGS4 had to sell 1 million copied to be a success. So, yes, MGS4 met AND exceded expectations.
