Forums - Gaming - Moore: Microsoft was “completely fixated on Sony”

Impulsivity said:

Sony is an innovative company (as are Apple and Google) that pushes new technologies and the boarder of whats possible. This leads to ideas that push what is possible and those ideas tend to push out the old guard of which Microsoft is king. If the Playstation, for example, recieves more and more media options, eventually there is just no market for a "media PC" and less of a need for a PC with an expensive OS in the first place.

This paragraph makes me laugh. I am sorry to go off topic here but neither Sony nor Apple are innovative companies. They each of either stolen or bought most of their technology from other smaller companies(Like gasp every other company out there).

Sony is a big big electronics company that makes products that range from completely sucking to high end. Though they will never be able ot compete with the ultra High End markets(McIntosh and such).

Apple was a big guy then the little guy and then the underdog. Their recent success in the marketplace has more to do with marketing than innovation. This in no way calling their products crap but like every other company they range from bad to good and in a lot of ways they are well rounded.

Google is google and if what you are worried about are monopolies than you have to be more concerned about both Apple or Google than Sony.

Microsoft doesnt even care about making profit, they just want to take out sony.

That's the case now and a few years b4 they released the first box most likely. Once they can some how manage that and get a monopoly going, then they rake in profit.

4 ≈ One

neither sony nor microsoft cn take out the other, they are just both too strong, at leats at the moment

Sony can try, but they arent focusing on third party software this gen.

If sony had FF XIII, GTA IV, DMC4, and other 3rd parties they lost exclusive at this point, the PS3 would be in a much higher position.

Some interesting things in this article :

- "ambitions that could well have destroyed the Nintendo we know today"
That's your typical journalist drivel

- "But Steve was very compelling, particularly when you're one-on-one with him in his office"
I see he's good at evading chairs launched by Ballmer

- "we really re-defined the way a console is launched"
Clearly not, must be his pipe dream

- "I don't think the word blog existed back in 2003"
This guy is ignorant. I discovered the name in like 1999 or before and I was late already.

“[Steve Ballmer] wanted my attitude, he didn’t care what I’d achieved at Sega, he wanted to know how I was going to win for Microsoft, how we were going to take on Sony, how would we compete with – or acquire – Nintendo.

[...]

Seriously?  Acquire Nintendo?  hahahahhahahhahahahahaha

To even bring that up is ridiculous.

Because they could never afford Nintendo (the value of the Mario IP alone would be crushing even for Microsoft) and the Nintendo major shareholders would never ever agree to a sale to a US company/competitor.

Well duh.

Everyone knows Microsoft entered the market to stop Sony from creating a videogame console that was the most popular and an "entertainment hub."

They probably still don't care about Nintendo really, other then to steal it's ideas to help them beat Sony.

Not saying they wouldn't like to be number 1.  But I think they're happy as long as Sony isn't number 1.
