Really? Monopoly is perhaps the worst affliction a market gets, especially for the consumers' concern.

Monoply is never good for a consumer, imagine what gaming would have been like if microsoft put playstation out of business and acquired nintendo back then, it would have been the start of a new videogame crash, well maybe not but this gen would have sucked for sure.

I remember when Microsoft announced the Xbox, they said that they were not competing with Nintendo. And for a while after the Xbox was released, the Xbox was in last place worldwide behind Nintendo's Gamecube, but they were second in N.A. and Europe. And everytime they announced their "placement" during that period, they NEVER said they were 2nd worldwide. They always said that they were 2nd in N.A. and Europe. But when the Xbox had enough of a lead ahead of the Gamecube in both N.A. and Europe to push them 2nd worldwide, it was then that they announced that they were 2nd worldwide. And some people complained about SONY's hype. Go figure. BTW, why was Reask banned and why???

The Wii is actually a threat to the PS3/Xbox 360 because they are actually targeting all gamers. Nintendo has released casual as well as core games. They can not help that third parties want to create shallow casual games. Eventually the core games will come either from third parties or Nintendo. The PSX, PS2, and the GBA did not become successful consoles because they targeted the core. They became Successful because they offered games for all gamers, casuals and the core.

What's to blame is the mistakes that Sony made, especially the price. It wasn't really anything that Microsoft did.
Had the PS3 simply been released at a price of $300-$400, then the the 360 would be in third place right now.
Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

And no matter how you slice it, $250 for a Wii is $250 less for a PS3 or 360. Now there are some who have no intentions of buying a PS3 and/or a 360 so that $250 meant nothing for those consoles in the first place. But there are still those out there who are deciding amongs the three, and whatever that person buy takes away spending power from another console.
