consider for a long time to get 720p since most games were at that level, and braodcast is there too... but the 1080 was a steal

Not to derail the thread, but it looks like most people here think 1080i is a better resolution than 720p (mabye because the number is higher). Well, 720p is a much, much better resolution, due to the progressive scan. 1080i probably has an even lower image quality than 480p due to its interlacing making the image really blurry on LCD TV's.

Just a piece of advice.

Some older HDTV's will only do 1080i.  My brother-in-law has an older one that will only do that.  But your are right in your assessment about 720p > 1080i.
