If this price cut has longer effect then the last one and if it proves succesfull in christmas sales then Sony is in trouble, they will be forced to drop the price again on the PS3 and take even heavier losses than they allready do and the pressure is on Sony if that happens. The only way the pressure will be on the xbox is if the pricut fails and Sony keeps their sales up.

If they end up 2nd that will ensure a greater following of gamers into the next generation and if they (as I think they will) launch first again next generation then being 2nd this gen is gold worth to get early adopters, the danger with that is that there may be consumers that are unwilling to buy the next xbox right away because of fear of a new RROD.

Sony is not doing fine they lose money on every console sold and that can never be fine or good in anyway.

How is that not good in the casual eye? they can now afford the console and more games with it and remember that xbox has been out 3 years now and it´s time to hit that pricepoint.

sony will only be forced if this price drop does serve a long term effect, how likely is that though? you fail to realise that ms have been forced to cut their prices at least once this year alone. the other may have been already planned, but there is no way in hell you would plan 2 cuts in the space of 6 months.

ending up second means shit, sony were a distance first and look where they ended up. nintendo were a close third last gen, where are they now? the last generation is in no way indicative of what the next generation will bring. this generation has proven that.

sony are losing money on every console sold, but they make more money on software than they lose on hardware. and how do you know microsoft aren't making a loss with these cuts?

sony are in a better position because people would rather pay £299 for their console rather than £199 for their nearest competition.

and to answer your last question, why are people buying more ps3's than 360's even though the premium is £100 cheaper than the ps3? people can afford £299 but not £199? people can afford to buy a wii at £179, but not a 360 at £159? the demand of the 360 has nothing to do with it's price. the brand is just not strong enough.

Wow so much wishful thinking in that post it´s hilarious.

The only thing making sense in the real world in that post is the last part, Xbox brand is not strong everything else is wishful thinking.

explain? how you think thats wishful thinking. i thought both points were good but his makes a lot of sense.

The last price cut did increase x360 sales up to a new plateau and so will this one.

Enough to overcome competition? who knows.

the price cuts should see a spike in EU for xbox 360.

but at the end of the day anyone who wants a ps3 will buy one and anyone who wants a 360 will buy one, but the price cuts may help 360 at xmas time as it will be ideal gift for kids.

Except kids don't want xbox. My nephew wouldn't even take my 360, he said he would get teased at school if people found out he had one. lol

It's all about PS3 or wii for the kids.

i don't know if it will turn the tide, but it surely made fanboys make tide full of threads about the price drop, on this site

I concur. My nephew wouldn't even play my 360, even after the awesomeness of DOA4 gravity defying flesh antics.. hes only kinda interested now that the arcade is $199.. M$ needs to market their machine better.. as time goes by the xbox 360 is reminding me of the impending doom the DC faced.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

It certainly won't hurt them.

The ps3 is still years away from the 360 sales wise. Heck, depending how the price cuts go in the states and europe it might be stuck forever in third place. Meanwhile, developer/publisher support for the 360 increases. Impending doom what?

We're talking about Others, where PS3 is right behind 360 and catching up fast... where 360 is in danger of dropping into third place... you know where its the opposite of US?  So PS3 isn't 'years' behind and 360 needs momentum 'now'.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

So what? since when low sales in a region are an omen of impending doom. Do I need to remember you both HD consoles are sinking in Japan?

I think so much of this is MEGA, MEGA speculation. we don't even know how the MS prce cuts are going to have a short term effect in NA. honestly we could be sitting here a month from now and seeing PS3 at a 75 K week and 360 at 65k, and some of you shouldn't kid yourselves, it could very well happen. Don't get me wrong MS is likely due for a few big weeks, but there is no proof pr idication outthere that says they will get any more than a short term boost of people that decide to splurge on a good deal. The 360 has always been cheaper than the PS3, yet this year it has been outsold. We need to ask ourselves why? Honestly I really think all MS is buying is holding off Sony an extra month or two. Is that really worth throwing away more profits? MS fans are excited and I understand it looks good in the very short term, but don't get riled over all this just yet. how many times have you all got wound up on these forums this year only to have to go into hiding on NPD day a month later. I advise caution.
