Forums - Nintendo - Wii storage solution coming, 'better' than a hard drive

September 9, 2008, 07:48 PM —  GamePro —

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, always the outspoken gaming exec, on Monday teased that Nintendo was indeed working on a Wii storage solution, with the cryptic caveat that it would be "better than" a hard drive.

The remarks came in an interview with a Latin American publication, which was graciously translated and corroborated by Nintendo fan site GoNintendo. In the interview, Fils-Aime poured cold water on the Wii hard drive rumors--effectively killing them off for good--and said the company will come up with something better.

Wired's Chris Kohler notes that the best solution would be to "just integrate the SD card reader that's already in the Wii into the console's available storage, treating it as if it were a seamless extension of the flash memory inside each console."

It would be an inexpensive fix, and would surely be welcomed by the many Wii owners who no doubt purchased large SD cards already.

Additionally, in that same interview, Nintendo development guru Shigeru Miyamoto reconfirmed that the slew of Nintendo first party Wii accessories is officially over.

Nope. It will be a peripheral called Wii Hold Your Stuff.

It'll come loaded with The Super Mario Brothers Movie and all three seasons of Captain N: The Game Master.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I'm expecting some kinda HVC technology. I dunno, just seems like something nintendo would do. Little HVC cards that hold 30 gigs for a buck? I'll buy a ton of em and download the entire virtual console library. Woo!

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

Already announced but what kind? lots of people here believe it will be Holographic storage since singed a deal with some company to use it.

Yay Captain N: The Game Master. How awesome is that.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I smell a firmware update with SDHC support.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

Hmm, how is it now, can the Wii address SD-cards larger than 2 GB?

Beware, I live!

No, SDHC is not supported, only SD cards up to 2GB.

And, the read/write speed is very slow, even with a high-speed SD card.

I think it will be some kind of online storage.
