I can't believe it, Nintendo will sell more Wiis than N64s this month. Let's do the Math. The thing came out in November 2006, not even 2 full years, and it would outsell the GC in just over a year, and the N64 in under 2 years! It will outsell the SNES in under 3 years! Not even Nintendo could have predicted that! It's passing its predecessors lifetime sales in only fractions of their lifetimes! I wouldn't doubt Nintendo will push 70 million in these easily, maybe even 80 million. It's hard to say whether or not it will reach DS sales, given that people will easily buy 2 DS for 2 children, but only 1 Wii for 2 children. Either way, the Wii WILL BE Nintendo's number one console when this generation is over. That means Nintendo will do something no other company has done, develop their 6th generation console when Wii's successor comes out. I'm impressed with how much Nintendo has come back, this is just mind-blowing!

Well can you say hello to casual audience, because that's what Nintendo is gravitating to. That explains the 32 million of Wii's sold worldwide.

It's averaging more than 20 million a year and rising, so unless you think Wii will be discontinued in a year and a half your prediction is WAAAY too low.

I think it will sell more than 70 million but even though it is tracking faster than DS I don't think it has any chance of getting anywhere near the sales of DS. Only way that would be possible would be if Nintendo increased production to some insane amount like 4 -5 million a month and dropped the price to $150.

They are producing 28.8m/year, and since we are yet to see much stock in the US after 2 years, we can assume that shipped=sold for the long term predictions. So in 3 years we are looking at ~115m by the time 5 years have passed on the market

Of course things can happen, but I doubt nintendo will lose much momentum world wide.
