Forums - Sales - I'm tired of unfounded predictions

This is a videogame site to talk about videogame sales, and you expect people not to make predictions? If professionals get predictions wrong all the time, then people here should be allowed to be wrong as well, I don't see the reason for the whining.....

Yeah, unfounded predictions make no sense.

Like John Lucas' 60 million Wii's sold by the end of 08.

Pretty hilarious if you ask me.

Anyone can make a prediction. It takes no skill or knowledge. Being right or wrong isn't even the issue. You're not a better person when you make an unfounded prediction and it happens to be right. So there is no point in making prediction based purely on belief, other than to satisfy your own misguided ego.

So please, do us all a favor. Don't make predictions unless you can lay a solid foundation with facts and logic.

At least 80% of the predictions made on this site are ridiculous.  You have very unlikely predictions (ie: "the PS3 will beat the 360 this holiday season in the US") to outright stupid ("the PS3's install base will pass the 360's in 2008").  You'll never stop predictions like these -- you can't make people look at the numbers.

King of wale

I agree. The banning here on this site is incredibly stupid anyways... Why not have ban bets? I think they're funny.

Sometimes people get a 'feeling' of what is going to happen. I get it sometimes and it is really difficult to explain.

The best example I can give is in a Football penalty shoot out. I get a feeling of where the player will shoot (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right, middle) and I am right about 60-75% of the time.

I guess its just people being intuitive.

Did I say that? No. Try reading what I actually wrote.

what kind of unbased predictions are you talking about?

without examples its hard to know what kind of predictions and who made you don't like.

Wii will sell 500 million worldwide by end of 2010

Yes, there is a point in making predictions based purely on belief other than to satisfy your own misguided ego, and that is to entertain those who don't give a shit. At least, the way I see it.
