Anyone can make a prediction. It takes no skill or knowledge. Being right or wrong isn't even the issue. You're not a better person when you make an unfounded prediction and it happens to be right. So there is no point in making prediction based purely on belief, other than to satisfy your own misguided ego.

So please, do us all a favor. Don't make predictions unless you can lay a solid foundation with facts and logic.

Sadly, I think that being in a video game site that focuses on sales numbers for various consoles and video games, it's the only place we can see these kind of predictions happen. I say, either let the storm pass (I blame Ike) or try to prove his/her selfish fanboy prediction wrong.

FishyJoe, I doubt you will stop people from making silly predictions. If it was this easy, wouldn't the fanboyism in the forums also die. I'm not saying you are wrong to post this, I am saying that people are too thick headed.

OT I agree. So many discussions have predictions based on pure faith/desire with little to no grounding in reality.

I doubt you'll see anything improve though - the Internet does offer the ability to privately act idiotically in public and many clearly find that an irresistible combination.

The thing I hate seeing is that certain people make tons of predictions. They use it to stroke their own ego. Some of the predictions wind up being right and they beat us over the head with it. When they're wrong they never admit it and even when confronted with it, they choose to ignore it.

I'll agree with you there. If someone wants to make a prediction, they should be able to back it up via a reasonable basis in fact.
