Forums - Sony - Little Big Planet PRos and Cons

Let's not try and let this degrade into a senseless thread about sales numbers or fanboys rants...

I am sitting on the fence on whether to buy this game or not...

On one hand I see it as the next big thing... On the other hand after playing Braid for a bit I think there is a lot missing.

I see the purchase as follows:

Pros:

- Infinite replayability through level design

- A really neat idea.  I see it as the next generation of a kind of puzzle platformers

- It will be interesting to see what others create

Cons:

- I don't want to make my own levels, don't have or want to spend the time required to do it well

- I like stories to go with the levels like CoD, Halo, Gears, Resistance, MGS, etc.

- Once I play games through. I typically don't go back to replay much because I have figured out the gameplay elements and it becomes boring quickly.

What are your pros and cons? (Again, please no sales or fanboys rants)

LBP has a story I believe, you know like mario saving peach with a bunch of random platforming levels.

You dont have to make levels, since the game is already packed with a "story" mode with 50-60levels.

Pros: Fresh new gameplay style
Cons: Can jumping on platforms get boring if there is no story or purpose?

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Pros:
- Awesome level editor, with a supposedly great physics engine attached. Should make for some cool messing around with.

- I like to build stuff. Ever since legos. Even now I load up Phun to design contraptions (2D physics simulator)

- Possibility of a great, large community of great level designers. I mean, after years of playing mods/custom maps for PC games, I'm impressed with how much work some people put into these sort of things.

Cons:
- Possibility of a ton of crappy levels swamping out the good stuff. Looking forward to see how that gets handled by the community/Media Molecule

Honestly, I don't see a lot of cons about this game. It really looks to be an excellent game from all reports/videos. Something I could fool around with for a long time. Especially if they (hopefully) keep updating the engine with new features to add to levels.

I like that it has a story, but I am wondering if new levels make much difference if there is no story with them or the story never really changes and they are just different levels.

Considering that the creator of any given level has the ability to not only link multiple stages together but add text, storyline, music, etc... I would assume each new level would have story and direction based on what the creator wishes.

Mario Sackboy must fight his way through the hordes of Plants and Turtles to save Sackgirl Peach from the evil cardboard Bowser. This is possible not to mention it would be pretty badass. :)

Maybe even a Castlevania themed level. Metroid even? How about Sidescrolling, jumping Sackboy Solid Snake?

This is the beauty of it.

In a game like this, why the need for so much story? Did Mario games ever need this?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Now how can anyone not appreciate that?

Well, there's no reason why player created levels can't have some sort of story. You can give 'characters' speech bubbles, and have they say what you like, I believe. I mean, it's all text and no actual sound, but you get the idea.

I'll certainly be giving my levels stories.

Don't expect anything deep, though. I mean, it's a 2D platformer. 2D platformers don't really need deep stories, though, do they?

------

Anyways:

Pros:

-- Up to 4 players on a single PS3.

-- You can do pure co-op, or you can do 'co-op-etition' (where you have to work together to complete the level, but you're in competition to get the most points),

-- Comes with a bunch of mini games too, which look like plenty of fun.

-- Level creator + sharing = loads of content to play.

Cons:

-- Penis levels.

-- Can't upload your own textures from your hard drive. (Although, MM have said they'll consider patching it in after release.)

I remember in Warcraft 3 you could make your own levels, but using a kind of simple declaration system you could flag events at certain points and add narrative to your map. Maybe they did something like that for LBP, if they did then that would be one less con.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
