Forums - Nintendo - Wii and DS games having the worst storylines?

There are a few RPGS coming to the Wii, FFCC (which is supposed to have an amazing story as per the developer)
Tales of Symphonia, Fragile, Disaster (Isn't an RPG but has narrative) and theres a few more, No More Heroes had quite a funny story it taught me never to do drugs while watching anime after WWE smack down is done.

Actions movies aren't to be watched for story.  Do you think Transformers was a huge box office success because of its "amazing story"?  No

Also, romance novels are for the most part, pure fluff so I kind of agree with you there but there are books in other genres that have good stories.

In other words you are agreeing with what I originally said? Just because most of the medium is filled with horrendus crap that makes your eyes bleed doesn't mean there isn't some great stuff out there. The majority of it will be made by people who think they are the next big thing when really they have no clue what they are doing.

well....i think this happens in every console. Wii has zelda, metroid, disaster...plus, that's not the purpose of video games, i mean, are you serious trying to compare storyline in video games to books??? 8-)

Not enough story driven games? Not interested in p&c adventures? Anyway, thread question answered: No.

You're actually missing quite a few games, albeit small ones. There are several Nancy Drew titles available for the DS now (some are even "decent"!) and another one coming soon. There are also two Nancy Drew games coming for the Wii. In addition, The Adventure Company has made several games for the DS and Wii, mostly based around Agatha Christie stuff. A new one comes out for the DS on Tuesday (Unsolved Crimes, or seomthing like that). And I'm sure there are a ton that I've forgotten about and/or missed.

All in all, though, the genre's definitely entering a mini-Renaissance.

Complex storylines do not work in videogames. If anything, I'm glad most games don't rely on their storyline.

Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex, Fallout 1 & 2...

And DTG, the Xbox 360 and PS3 are almost as bad as the Wii in terms of quality stories. The only platform for great stories and quality storytelling is the PC, 'nuff said.

I'm not usually the first person to defend PC gaming, but this is very correct.

The narrative in most PS3/X360 games (particularly the games often considered "hardcore") is dull at best, to be honest I haven't ever played a game with a truly gripping storyline.

I know, noname2200.

I left out those which I'm absolutely not interested in:
- Nancy Drew games (I read that they seem to be nicely done, but I don't care about this series)
- Agatha Christie games (lack of quality imo, so far at least)

I only mentioned the available good ones and the future promising ones along with Myst (as I know Myst is still one of the most famous adventures in NA. I don't like 3rd person p&c adventures and the DS port seems to be horrible anyway).

Play MGS.  The story in that series is very gripping.  Also, try some Final Fantasy games

That's his opinion.  I played FFX and I thought the story was great.  I have read books and watched movies before so don't tell me what is a good and bad story/writing

my advice: go play some DS RPGs

they have pretty good stories..most of them

as for the rest: do they NEED stories?

I don't need a good story to enjoy platformers..or puzzle games..not really

the few games that DEMAND a good story are games that lack gameplay..most of the time

in this case RPGs

with KH and Tales being an exception..

asI'm planning on getting 358/2 days in JP (better voices..all gameplay for me...gonna get some translation later)

and Tales of Innocence..wich I've been playing recently..don't understand SHIT (totally JP)

but the gameplay is so good..especially multiplayer..

more RPGs should learn from KH(not II..it was oo much hack and slash) and Tales
