Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A good idea for Wii Speak

It would be cool if Wii Speak was capable of voice recognition for gameplay. For instance, you can you use Wii Speak for playing a game like Jeopardy where you actually say the answer instead of spelling it.

Just a thought.

its just only a speaker microphone thats in top of your TV though, nothing new just a speaker microphone... SO NO.

Why not? All that's missing is the software. This would ship with the game, not the device itself, obviously.

Voice recognition is tricky business, of course. And even if it didn't have problems with false positives and correct interpretation, not everybody is going to want to control a game by yelling at it.

Of all the times games have tried to implement voice as an input, the only use that's been a major success has been when it's used to communicate with other humans.

would be a bit costly to develop for a Jeopardy game....unless it didn't work well ^^

It works pretty well in Brain Training.

As Hephaestos said, something like Jeopardy would be really expensive to develope using voice commands, not impossible though, but the real question is, whether it's worth it.

@yushire: It actually has somekind of "box" with it, which i asume having the things firmware and sound processing stuff.

There's a few DS games controlled with the mic. It just relies on enough Wii Speak units get shipped as to whether developers bother.

AH OK, and I thought its just only a speaker microphone so theres a possibility after all...

So WiiSpeak may have voice recognition technology? I have never read anything about this anywhere else.

@OooSnap: It may. DS had it and it even had the handwriting recognition.
Anything is possible, since after all, it's mainly a software related thing.

I think it'll be cool if they stuck a hard drive in wii speak.
