Forums - Sales - How many units will the PSP have sold LTD by Jan. 1, 2009?

So it`s now at 38 mln. mark. In last 4 months of 2007 PSP made:

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 08th Sep 2007 to 29th Dec 2007:

If PSP will match these sales, then by the end of 2008 it should reach 44 mln. so far. =) During that time in 2007 PSP slim was released, that gave a boost to PSP sales. In Japan FF7:CC also spiked sales. =)

This year, PSP also getting new model, though 1,5 month later, then a year ago. Also in Japan PSP getting FF:Dissidia, there will be some bundles too, which may too boost sales.

So, 44 mln. is best case, what we can expect this year for PSP or it could sell even higher? Or maybe worse? What do you think? Discuss. =)

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Good thread.

I don't think the new model has nearly the same differences from its prior version as last year, and won't have the same boost. And FF:Dissidia won't be anywhere near as successful as FF7:CC. But the boost has mostly been sustained all year from last year anyway so we could still see similar numbers.

Around 44-45 million I think.

I think this might be Crazzy's most sane thread so far.... all the comparisons look valid to me, and you give reasons why it might not make 44 as well as why it might pass it.
