Forums - Sales - GTA4 PS3 version will outsell GTA4 360 version ?

People make way to big a deal about DLC. Those interested in DLC are likely those that bought the game day one, or shortly thereafter. Or rather, those that would've bought the game no matter what, as they are big fans of the series.

As far as choosing which version to get, it was probably only a deal breaker for the few that own both systems. I can't see it swaying any console purchases, given the fact that people are probably more concerned about the larger library, rather than possibly getting a few extra hours of gameplay from a single game.

vaild points.  I still say that there is no way the ps3 version can catch up to the 360 though :P.

1.5 million is alot of software for a game thats been out for nearly half a year. Not to mention the fact that the 360 version will be selling more too (even if its at a lower rate than the ps3) so the ps3 version would technically have to sell more than 1.5 million to catch up and its just unpractical for this game to sell another 3-4 million copies even with the holidays around the corner.

Just my humble opinion though, take it for what its worth.

Yup, just as soon as the PS3 takes over the 360 in sales...

Well GTA:SA sold 400K in Japan, so it does sell quite well there.

The fact is the PS3 version is selling more each week now, so it will eventually catch up unless the trends change.

Except you forgot to mention GTA:SA was on a much much more successful platform and much larger install base than the PS3...

DMC4 and MGS 4 say hello.

Given that Japan will give the PS3 version at least another 200K over the 360 version

I doubt that PS3 version will outsell 360 version by 200k. Even though PS3 has 3-4 times the installed base it wouldn't be surprising if the 360 version has a better attach rate. My guess is it will be closer to 100k difference, which isn't particularly significant on a Worldwide basis.

I think it will close the gap but I can't really see it passing it in sales.

Well I see the PS3 version outselling the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV. Just for the simple fact. Some PS2 users that have not converted to the PS3 or has not gone to the Xbox 360, still need to get the game. So they are more than likely waiting for a PS3 price cut. As showed already the PS3 is at $400 now. This gives those GTA fans an nice opportunity to get GTA IV. And I think the PS3 version still will do well once the PS3 becomes a mainstream approved price.

Edit: I had to fix a little sentence at the beginning :)

Firstly may I correct an unfounded statement in the OP.

"For the last couple of months the PS3 version has started to outsell the 360 version, worldwide."

Absolutely not correct. The ps3 version started consistently outselling the 360 version from the 22nd August 2008. Which is less then a month of sales. Before then the 360 had been outselling the ps3 version almost every week.

Now with that aside I wouldn't be surprised if the ps3 version starts consistently outselling the 360 version. I however do not think that will lead to an eventual victory as the current sales aren't high enough for a game thats legs aren't as good as past gta's. My point being that since the legs aren't as good overall as past gta's the ps3 version wont have the time to catch up on the 360's versions lead.

The sales in Japan wont make much of a difference due to both consoles weaknesses in Japan overall.

While I don't believe that your first sentence is a foregone conclusion, I do agree with your points.

And to add to that, doesn't a large portion of GTA's sales traditionally come once it goes Greatest Hits?  That probably won't be for a year at best, and if the ps3 version does continue to outsell the 360 version consistently, then the spikes around the time the price drops should help the ps3 version gain on the 360 version even moreso.

We will see... everything henges on 360's holiday... if they blow Sony out of the water it's completely out of the question... if not there is always the possibility, but if the downloadable content is substantial it may pull in PS360 owners to purches the game on sale... I wonder what the revenue on that DLC will be
