sweet, now i dont have to buy a 360

@chenguo: No, not at you. It's just a common argument that I've seen. I actually missed you saying that.

you did realize that this rumor is months old and denied by Namco ?

Chenguo4, stop trying to put sense into this thread, it wasn't meant to be.
All of what you say is obvious, but several people like Starcraft are lost in their delusions.
It requires some desperation to add together traditional JRPG against SRPG to try to make a point.
Even more when high production values are put to the same standard as quick cash-in.

It must have been hard to swallow that a quick SD cash-in like DQ Swords sold so much, when HD games that were made to rival DQ (Blue Dragon) and FF (Lost Odyssey) made barely more than a quick SD cash-in. I'm not surprised people like Starcraft lost their mind when that happened: it was too much!
Tales Of is the only apples to apples comparison we can make for now. Soon, there will be Eternal Sonata (or Trusty Bell) that we can compare too.
Trusty Bell bombed on XB360, Blue Dragon bombed, Tales of Vesperia bombed too. Every single JRPG on XB360 bombed except Lost Odyssey.
So to hear that XB360 is the sole console that has the ability to sell JRPG is laughable at best. If it were true, it would mean JRPG are dying a quick death this gen.

yes this is true, it was originally pencilled in for ps360, then went 360 only, it will be timed like eternal sonata.

if eternal sonata sells more on ps3 then namco should be condemed for that, as they choose backpayment, over raising thier gaming profile

Namco don't need to raise their gaming profile.

They are just choosing to put their JRPG's on the only next generation system that has been proven to sell that genre.

The only JRPG released on the PS3 is Enchanted Arms and it sold better on PS3 than on 360 despite being a port that was released months later.

Exactly.  The only JRPG released and look how it sold..............

Xbox 360 owners however have demonstrated that there are at LEAST 800k JRPG fans playing the console.

I'm afraid your view on 360/RPGs is full of lose.  Its clearly not the only console that RPGs will sell well on - and just like any other game the simple fact is that a multiplatform RPG that is decent is going to sell nearly twice as much as an exclusive at this point in time.

The only reason for these titles being exclusive is money/agreements - imagine titles such as GTA or COD4 or AC or DMC4 had been 360 or PS3 only and look at the sales they would have lost.  Right now ToV would likely have twice the sales if it had been released on 360/PS3.

OF course if you completely rewrite my argument to suit your needs it is full of lose.

I said that the Xbox 360 is the only console with a demonstrated ability to sell large quantities of JRPG's.  Thus far, the numbers show that to be true.

I believe Namco said that in the case of Vesperia the exclusivity had something to do with a delay in receiving PS3 dev kits.

I didn't change your words.  You wrote implying developers are putting RPGs on 360 as it is only one that sells (strongly implying PS3/Wii don't sell RPGs).

Yet PS3/Wii have had almost no true RPG yet and those they have show that both consoles can sell RPG titles.  360 you could claim has the largest library right now (which it does) - but you can't claim developers have decided PS3/Wii won't sell RPG as there is no evidence of that.

Wait until PS3/Wii have 3 or 4 real RPG (Folklore is not an RPG title for example) and then we'll be able to discuss whether only 360 sells RPGs well.

Also majority of RPGs on 360 (particularly turn based jRPGs) have only sold reasonably at best...

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

You had, and in this post continued to, change two key elements of what I was saying.

As there are a few other people (chenguo, DMeisterJ) in this thread who took issue with what I was NOT saying rather than what I WAS saying they can consider this post my response to their comments as well.

First of all, you have posted with regard to "RPG's," but I have only been discussing "JRPG's."

Secondly, I have not once said that the PS3 will never sell large quantities of JRPG's.  I have said that it has not proven itself capable of doing so.  The highest selling JRPG on the PS3 sold 110k.  You can argue that this is by default, you can argue that it is due to the Xbox 360's headstart (though the Wii launched at the same time as the PS3 and has a 700k selling JRPG) and you can argue that this is all due to Microsoft moneyhatting publishers.  But at the end of the day this doesn't change the simple fact that you (or me) claiming the PS3 can sell JRPG's in large quantities is an assumption.

It may or may not be a reasonable or logical assumption, I have not once passed judgement on that argument in this thread.  But unless you have access to sales charts I do not, for games that I was not aware existed, you cannot possibly tell me you are not making the assumption that JRPG's can sell well on the PS3.

At least not reasonably......

Oh, don't start man. There's no way it can end well, and no point if it did.

I do hope ToV goes multiplat. Great game, imo. I like it when great games can be played by more people.

I'm sick of elitist PS3 fans saying things like "Japanese devs have no credibility because they made a title Xbox 360 exclusive."  Vesperia sold excellently on the Xbox 360, as have many other JRPG's.

didnt enchanted arms sell better on ps3 then 360?

thats very sad if you still think 360 can sell more RPGs.

Total sales of JRPG's on the Xbox 360 exceed 2 million.

On the PS3, im not sure if they reach 200k................
