There is indeed affirmative action going on, which is why multiplat games never measure up to PS3 only games in graphics, gameplay or anything else. Why doesn't GTA4 look like MGS4? Because they had to make the 360 and PS3 versions equal so having higher res textures and other enhancements the PS3 is capable of was out of the question.

This is actually enforced by Microsoft. They charge a BONUS fee for every DVD you use after the first one for all 360 games and it's apparently pretty hefty according to several developers. They make devs pay through the nose since having 3 DVD games makes the 360 look inferior to the one blu ray PS3 special.

If anyone ever wonders why I hate Microsoft in the console war even though I like competition (I don't want Nintendo to go at all) its that drop in quality. If you make it for the PS3 and PC you can keep quality since the PC has scalers to let multiple kinds of hardware use it and disk space to make up for the lack of blu ray. The 360 though, dumbs down all multi platform titles by making them drop to the 360s lowest common denominator particularly in terms of media capacity. I'm sick of playing half baked multi platform titles! More MGS4 quality less GTA4 equality! At least most of these games aren't ported to the Wii too or we'd be playing GTA4 in lovely 480i.

Tell me, did you equally hate Sony last generation when every multiplat needed to be dropped in quality on the Xbox and Gamecube so it could be playable on the Playstation 2?

Don't be silly, Onyx. Last gen was about the games. This gen is about the shiny!

Ok.... Now where do I sign for a blood transfusion? I want me some MS blood....

The PS2 to Xbox difference was not as obvious at all.  Plus they both used DVDs which helped mitigate it.  You couldn't use vastly better textures in the XBox version because you had the exact same amount of space to work with.  What it came down to was the 360 was a little faster in processor power and could do slightly better renders (which came through in some of the 360 vs PS2 reviews).  The huge PS3 advantage is more about Blu Ray then being more powerful, you can't improve the textures because then the 360 version would be either A) noticeably inferior or B) across multiple discs so you'd get hit with the extra disc fee.

They do also limit whats on the screen for 360/PS3 games too though.  Smartly so if you've seen Infinate Undiscovery slow down to a crawl with 20 enemies on the screen.

The gamecube DID have better graphics, but it also had that weird proprietary media format that was tiny in capacity which mitigated the better graphics hardware.  The only one that really ended up better was the Xbox, but the PS2 to xbox difference wasn't nearly as profound as the 360 to PS3 difference.

I like MSFT as much as the next guy--look at my name here, but I SAY NAY to affirmative action, Squilliam. The Civil Rights era is over and that Title 5 and all that is just plain PORK!

The PS2 to Xbox difference wasn't obvious at all? Wow. Spoken like someone that obviously never played an Xbox game before. You want to see how big a difference it was, go buy both versions of Splinter Cell Double Agent and tell me it's not obvious. Go play Panzer Dragoon Orta, Dead or Alive Ultimate, Half-Life 2, Doom 3, Ninja Gaiden Black or Chronicles of Riddick and then tell me there is anything comparable on the PS2.

That was a nice and very necessary dodge for you though, but it doesn't make you look any less like a hypocrite.

@Rol-Soooo...PS2>Wii=Xbox=GC x 2

Nice formula.

Multiplatform equality?

Some might call it affirmative action while others might call it pandering to minorities. Whatever you call it, the result is that it doesn't matter what your race is out in the multiplatform wilderness you still get an equal shot with 90% of the titles which will be released now and into the future.

  • No PS3 game or Xbox 360 game shall look better than the other if the developer can so help it.
  • No ability on either console shall be used which the other console cannot manage. So if one console cannot afford to wear a suit, then suits shall not be required for these multiplatform jobs.

Affirmitive action in action.

In order to help the minorities, the government (Microsoft) has decided to offer certain jobs first to Xboxes as timed exclusives. This has required considerable investment of incentives and other grants in certain industries. Whilst it has come under considerable crititicism in the past for this practice, the government has pledged to continue offering them to the Xbox 360.

  • 3rd party exclusives and series are to be given great incentives by the government so that they may give jobs to the Xbox 360s before they are offered to the wider console population.
  • The reason to do this is to break up the old boys clubs of Sony and Nintendo by giving Xboxes a fairer chance in the work place as they are offered jobs by virtue of their 'make' not according to any particular talent.
  • They made the Xbox 360s Arcade $200, Premium $300, Elite $400 to help give people more incentive to hire an Xbox 360 for the job than ever before.

Healing the attrocious Xbox 360 health statistics.

Its no surprise to many people that compared to their PS3 and Wii brothers, Xbox 360s die well before their time on average. The government has been slowly but surely changing this statistic and bringing positive change to the Xbox 360 minority. Over the years numerous health initiatives have been put into place to stem the tide and bring the Xbox 360 mortality rate back into line with the other consoles.

  • Free health care for 3 years from birth, instead of the standard 1 year.
  • Better treatment for those who do become sick to prevent a reoccurence (Opus motherboard)
  • Reducing the primary causes of the health problems by introducing the Zephyr, and Falcon revisions as well as the upcoming Jasper revision which is said to finally put an end to the problems.
  • Slimming down the console to reduce the mortality rate from complexity and bring the Xbox 360 size into line with the majority of the consoles. This is called the Valhalla program, and from next year new Xbox 360s will be slim and healthier than even the Jasper revision.

The Microsoft future!

Microsoft wants to improve the lives of every Xbox now and into the future. They want to ensure that they get enough jobs, that they are healthy and that the 3rd generation of Xboxes can lead even better lives than the current generation.

:)
