Forums - Nintendo - 3 reasons for nintendo to be worried

Well one I doubt will have little effect on the Wii considering the best selling SKU on the 360 is still $50 more expensive. The Arcade SKU has alwasy been purely for advertising but I think people are starting to see through these ploys.

Secondly I'm not so sure there is a shortage of Wiis in America right now. Of Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii... yes but not so sure about Wii. 550k in this last month may show either that we are wrong sales wise or possibly it finally hit that median like we thought it would during the summer. Now of course it would only show for a couple of months as we get into big selling months starting with mid September and through the year but that's my theory if our numbers hold up.

Finally the hardcore gamers are not your majority buyer for the end of the year. Mainstream buyers are the ones who buy during the holidays. Software and hardware. Nintendo needs to worry about the core gamers going into 2009 which is apparent considering their new focus PR wise seems to be on the core gamers. However the recent stuff about Disaster is kinda well a "disaster" marketing wise. Really don't know what they were thinking but luckily the game has built some hype over time and if they can get some decent advertising it can sell to its potential.

my thoughts:
1 - no. I think a lot of people are going to realize that the arcade is a crippled version of the 360 and not want it
2 - Always an issue, but smart people have gone out and are buying them NOW as they are a little easier to find. With the unit approaching its 2nd birthday, people got the hint that you're not going to automatically walk into a store and find one during the holidays.
3 - E3 generally holds no interest for anyone since they changed it. Many people didn't expect anything from anyone at E3. The only people that were actually disappointed were the fans who heard rumors of Kid Icarus and F Zero. While there were no "core" games announced, suddenly we get get Day of Crisis out of the blue. 3rd party offerings also seem to keep the crowd content.

I don't forsee any of the issues really being issues at all. People who want a cheap 360 will get the arcade, but parents turn into cavemen in the stores. They know Wii. They dont know 360, unless their kids requested that. I've never even once seen or heard of a parent substituting a christmas present request with a runner-up "eh, good enough" present.

If you call the arcade version of the 360 crippled what do you call the WII a parapalegic?

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

"Seriously, none of those are an issue. Nintendo only has one thing to worry about:

1) Nintendo."

Possibly, and their at best rather bland E3 outing was evidence that they do really need to worry about that.  I know that  their E3 showing really did a lot to dampen any enthusiam that I had for the Wii.  It felt like a slap in the face like they were saying we are Nintendo and we're going to give you cr*p games like Raving Rabbids, an inferior version of Call of Duty 5, Jedi Master****** W*****, Animal Crossing (without the animals you all know and love), and Wii Music, and you're going to take it with huge smiles and say we're the greatest game company on earth because we're Nintendo and you are our fans.  The best thing they showed in retrospect seemed to be Wii Sports Resort and that is not really my type of game.  Actually, now that I think about it, their E3 Conference reminded me of that part in Eddie Murphy's Raw where he said that Richard Pryor told him to tell Bill Cosby to have a coke and a smile and shut the **** up."

I know that most of my current resentments against the Wii and Nintendo generated from their E3 conference because before that I had been sending them very nice and polite letters asking them to bring Mother (Earthbound 3 ) or an Earthbound Collection to the US in some form and even though they refused to do it for some reason, I didn't find their refusals on the matter to be as much of a slap to the face as the E3 Conference.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

I don't agree. Of course 360 and PS3 will continue to drop price and add features faster than Nintendo. This is to be expected as Nintendo is the market leader and has a low price point.

The 360 is of little concern to Nintendo because as point #2 said, the Wii shortage. Until Nintendo can meet demand in America or demand starts to fall in Europe, it doesn't have to bother with trying to compete. In Japan, demand is not as high and Nintendo is countering that pretty well (new controller, different colored Wiis, different colored controllers, Japan only games, Wii Router).

About hardcore gamers, I don't think Nintendo cares a great deal about any small section of gamers. Nintendo makes games for various groups of gamers and for all gamers. It has been this way for a long time. Because the Wii control system is so much better than the other consoles, Nintendo is making special games to take advantage of this (Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Wii Sports Resorts) that are enjoyed by every type of gamer and people who never even played games before this generation. Hardcore games are coming to Wii at a high level, anyway. Look at the VC. Even some of the Wiiware games. Some of the DS Demos are hardcore. Of course, plenty of the actual games. Wii has RPG, sports, fighting, racing, FSP, strategy, platform, puzzle, party, simulation, and just about every other type of game around.

About hardcore, the Wii can even be modded, unlike the PS3 for the really hardcore and tech people.

Oh, and of course, Wii plays GC games.

I say, much to do about nothing.

@Megaman79: Maybe that's because kids are core audience?

@xman: Arcade isn't "fully featured", unlike 360 premium or Wii.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

"Look at the VC."

Yeah, but most of us have already played those. They've been on the internet and emulators for years and many of them that were Japanese only games like certain rpgs that aren't even on the VC have received good homebrew translations over the years.

Non of that stuff has anything to do with the Nintendo Wii.

If the 360 started to sell at Wii levels here in the US, i doubt Nintendo would even care.

The Virtual Console and the fact that some people are paying for things that have been available on the internet for at least ten years for free has nothing to do with the Wii? One of the Wii's biggest selling points to hardcore gamers is the Virtual Console but there are better ways to play many of those games. If you're a fan of oldschool Nintendo games and they are the type of hardcore games that you want to play it could be that even the FC Twin is a much better way to go.  At least there you are spending your money on collectables rather than little digital tags.

Face it, 360 will never come close to the Wii. The only console the price drop will hurt is possibly the PS3. Enough of these mindless posts.
