Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Plans to Cut Xbox Price to Compete With Nintendo Wii

That strikes me as economic suicide... $249 is significantly more reasonable.

PS3: 5.51m/51w, avg 108,039/w (up 239)
360: 12.93m/102w, avg 126,764/w (up 625), leads PS3 by 7.42m (up 70k), avg lead 18,725/w (up 386)
Wii: 13.52m/51w, avg 265,098/w (dn 1,102), leads PS3 by 8.01m (up 90k), avg lead 157,059/w (dn 1,341)

If 360 sales stabilize, PS3 sales increases needed to pass 360 by...
01/08: (008w) +875.8%, 04/08: (021w) +344.4%, 07/08: (034w) +219.3%, 10/08: (047w) +163.5%
01/09: (060w) +131.8%, 04/09: (073w) +111.4%, 07/09: (085w) +098.1%, 10/09: (099w) +086.7%
If Wii sales stabilize, PS3 sales increases needed to pass Wii by...
01/08: (008w) +1072.%, 04/08: (021w) +498.4%, 07/08: (034w) +363.4%, 10/08: (047w) +303.1%
01/09: (060w) +269.0%, 04/09: (073w) +246.9%, 07/09: (085w) +232.6%, 10/09: (099w) +220.3%
If PS2 sales freeze, Wii sales increases needed to pass PS2 (as of Mar07, 108.4m) by...
2008: (008w) +4373.8%, 2009: (060w) +0496.5%, 2010: (112w) +0219.6%, 2011: (165w) +0116.9%
2012: (217w) +0064.9%, 2013: (269w) +0033.1%, 2014: (321w) +0011.5%, 2015: (376w) -0004.8%
At +0% it will pass it in 358w, the week ending September 19th, 2014, at an age of 409w (7y44w).

On Destructoid a poster is claiming a friend works at in distribution for a major retailer.

According to him, there is going to be a drop to $199 for the core, plus a pack in memory card.

That's the same rumor from the canadian source. It said 199 core plus memory card, 299 premium, 399 Elite.

Edit: Here it is - http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=18915

Excelent! Here we pay 1500 US$ in the official X360. With this new price we could finnaly pay +/- 1125 US$ (here the tax is extremelly high)

Brazilian, right? Bem-vindo ao fórum! XD

^Click on cards to level'em up!!!^ =D

I dont see a price cut helping much. Halo will push sales, and if you want a 360 by then, you'll own one.

And I don't think Wii will drop its price for a LONG time. If They think there's trouble, it will get another game bundled in with it.

I am Daemon. I am the Word.

a 360 price cut won't hurt the Wii. It will dent the PS3 though. If there is anything left of the PS3 to dent once Sony is through with it.

I think microsoft's problem is having 3 different versions of their console. Sure, you could get the $299 one, but is it worth it? We (forumers) know the difference between all these versions, but does the mass market understand? No. Will they ever? Probably not.

I agree.  Having 3 different versions of the console is a joke.  The Core system is a joke anyway, surely the sales of the Core unit will be really low as people generally will know about the lack of HDD.

The Elite version is actually the most reasonable version of the 360, with a good sized HDD and all the HDMI support etc.

Personally, they should get shot of the Core System and stick with the Premium and Elite at the most.

They should bring the Premium down to $249 and the Elite to $349.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

At the moment in the U.K. most xbox deals come with a ridiculous number of free games. I think xtravision (like blockbuster for Northern Ireland) were doing the premium at regular price (£279) plus any 4 games. When the premium drops to £200 or so I will probably get one. After they release the new falcon chipset version of course.

Yes

The Core at $199 w/ a memory card is worth picking up. Especially if they have no interest in online.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

That would be one hell of a price cut. I wouldn't be able to say no!

Agreed. Microsoft needs to get away from having 3 freaking different consoles, and just focus on 2, or better yet 1. A $249 Premium would guarantee victory, almost, especially when people can't find a Wii.
